Re: Can you change a kittens name?

When we first got Tiddles she was 6 months old and was used to being called "Summertime". We thought this was a ridiculous name to be shouting in the depths of Winter so we changed it to Tiddles. She adapted well and quickly .

HTH.

Spencer. Our dogs pedigree name is Spencer's Star and Dave wanted to call one kitty Spencer and the other Star but because I was originally getting 2 boys I thought Star wasn't right for a boy, but now I'm getting a boy and girl instead....

Re: Can you change a kittens name?

Raffles came to us from the RSPCA called Norris - which I didn't like at all. He was 8 months old and didn't object when we changed it. The Burmese had fancy registered names (one included Daredevil, so you can guess his personality!), but we called them Rosso and Bruno, as they're red and brown. Whenever you should one they all come running anyway, they're scared of missing something!

Re: Can you change a kittens name?

course you can, names are actually more relevant to us than them, they just recognise certain sounds and the way you sound,

Im sure Gizmo actually thinks his name is "ARRRRgGGGGHHHH you little s*ite" and the rest all come to "suppertime" "bedtime" " and of course the usual rattling of certain packets or the opening of the fridge door or "the" food cupboard

If I shout one, whoevers closest tends to turn up anyway and look at you as if to say "i can be whoever you want just give me the chicken pwweeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssseeeeee "

Re: Can you change a kittens name?

I love the name Spencer. I also agree that it's totally fine to change a kitten's name as unlike humans, they don't seem to have any sort of identity associated with their names. I know that when adopting (human!) children you're encouraged not to change names but with animals it's a bit different I think. Our kittens have soooo many nicknames. Dinah responds to her name as I think she's a bit brighter than Monty, who hasn't quite grasped his yet!

Re: Can you change a kittens name?

We changed Cleo's name when we got her but the name she had was only her rescue name as she was a stray! If she had responded to it I may have thought differently. She knows she is Cleo now and we went for that as a lot of the names we wanted started or ended similar to Ella and Archie and we wanted them all to recognise their names.
