Question Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Should I buy a pedigree from a first litter?
I'm new to the forum. HELLO.

I've found a pedigree kitten thats local to me that I wanna buy. The only reservation I have is it's the Queens first litter. She's a grand champion with great bloodlines and the Stud although not a champion has full pedigree great bloodlines also. It will be gccf registered

Is there anything I should be wary of? Or should I look for a kitten with a 3plus generation pedigree?

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

The kitten will still have at least a 4 generation pedigree - just because it the queen's first litter is completely irrelevant - the generations thing is mum/dad, grandparents, great grandparents, great great grand parents known etc. Absolutely nothing wrong with a queen's first litter!

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Oooohhh thanks for explaining the generation thing. Had a bit of a mental block for a moment with that I think LOL.

Funnily enough the kittens a Siamese and I saw someone posted a message looking for one. Must be a popular breed.

They are gorgeous kittens though. Ours died 6 months ago and we were heartbroken and still miss him and it's taken a while to decide to get another but we want it to be right if you know what I mean. Hence asking for the advice

Some advice i will offer is , to do your homework and dont rush into anything, make sure you buy a kitten from a reputable breeder, there are a few Siamese breeders that use this forum that may be able to help you or guide you in the right direction......good luck..........Chris

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

There's no reason why you shouldn't have a kitten from a first litter. Make sure that you are happy with the way the kittens are being brought up, their home environment and interaction with others. The kitten must have had its full course of vaccinations and be up to date with worming. It should have been seen by a vet at least twice and been given a clean bill of health. Those things go for any breed of cat. Siamese in particular, I would make sure that I was very happy with its socialisation. If you are going to be out all day I would seriously consider two kittens - not necessarily the same breed - Siamese do like company.
If the breeder has a registered prefix check it with the GCCF to make sure they haven't been suspended. Someone starting out in breeding however may use the annual prefix for their breed, set by the GCCF. Welcome to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy
If you want to email me for any specific advice I'd be happy to hear from you. I'd suggest the PM function here but as a 'newbie' you have to make 25 posts first. You can find my details in the website in my signature

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Seems that one detail was forgotten Pedigree registered breeders should only let the kittens go at 12 - 13 weeks nothing less and should have had its boosters and worming like mentioned above.

Oops Of course if the kitten has had its injections it will be 12 weeks old at least anyway
