Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Thank you for the further detailed advice. The kitten is now 13 weeks old, healthy, playful, fully inoculated wormed etc. Lovely environment etc.... The breeder has got all the gccf papers which I will be given but the kitten isn't registered as they said I can choose my own prefix and name so I can register him when I bring him home.

That rings alarm bells for me You cannot chose the prefix - that is the breeder's register title. Some breeders will let you choose the kitten's name but the breeder has to register the kitten. There is an exception to this but for you to register the kitten you have to have pedigrees of both dam and sire and a certificate of mating between them. It doesn't cost much in terms of the cost of a kitten for the registration and I cannot understand why a breeder would not register their kittens

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

I have to agree with Lynn, i find it strange why a breeder would not register the litter with the GCCF , even if the breeder doesnt have their own Prefix then they can still be registered using the Prefix thats been allocated for this year by the GCCF...............Chris

Definite alarm bells!!!!!! Turn away - this is either a scam or a back yard breeder - you won't even be able to prove that they are 100% siamese if they aren't registered. Anyone can invent a 5 gen pedigree but you can't forge a GCCF registration slip easily.

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Hi, alarm bells started ringing with me when I read your messages. I contacted the breeder and they said the kitten will be registered in their name but we can transfer the kitten to our name and the cost is about £7 with the gccf. Is this correct?

Yes that's right - though I think it has gone up recently and is about £12 now. This will transfer the ownership f the kitten but you still won't be able to change it's pedigree name - though you can call it what you want out loud!

Yes that's right. With the kitten you get a pink registration slip which you send off to the GCCF with your name and address to transfer it. I'm not sure about the cost - current fees are on the GCCF website if you're unsure or you can ring them up to ask.

Re: Should I buy a Pedigree from a first litter?

Phew - thanks for that. I hoped I wasn't being taken for a ride and was a bit worried. The breeders seem to be lovely caring genuine people and are very upfront and informative.

Your advice and help has been invaluable to me. THANK YOU.

I'll let you know what happens as I think we are going to see him at the weekend with a view to bringing him home.
