How important are the first set of vaccs?

These two 4 month old kittens I'm "supposed" to be getting haven't had any of their vaccs. She says they haven't had them because they are house cats but is it not still important for them to get them to prevent them from developing any diseases etc? I will definitely be getting them done but still wondered..

One is male and the other is female and she originally said they hadn't had their vaccs because she couldn't afford it due to having to buy her son clothes because he grows so fast which made me wonder how she was going to afford to neuter them before they ended up breeding together if she were able to keep them

It is IMO as important to have house cats vaccinated as it is outdoor cats. Many of the virus's can be brought in on feet, clothing, hands or are airborne, also if you ever need to use a cattery you will need to have them fully vaccinated or you will not be allowed to board them.

That's what I was thinking. Obviously the cats don't have any contact with outdoors but we do and also other pets (dogs etc) so surely they can still catch things.

I think they're just as important too and even if didn't get yearly boosters I would definitely get the initial set (I will be getting their yearly boosters though).

First year booster is also IMO a necessary evil After that I think it can become an individuals informed choice.
Misi and lulubel like this.

Agreed. Ours had their first boosters on time, but since then they've been vaccinated every 2 to 3 years.

Milly Cat is on a distinguished road
Re: How important are the first set of vaccs?

a cattery will ask for evidence that annual vaccinations are up to date - ours insists that vaccinations must be given at least one month before the cat stays. Given that Milly stays there twice a year it's worth keeping the vaccinations up to date for her.

I believe for most companies that is just if the illness is one covered by a vaccination, not other things.

Re: How important are the first set of vaccs?

I think it's important to have indoor cats vaccinated if for no other reason than the possibility that they may escape at some point.

I like to cover the bases as best as I can. We're pretty careful about the doors but cats are wily creatures, and they are fast. We have people in and out all the time so I cannot guarantee that my cats will never escape therefore I like to protect them, just in case.
