Owners of deaf cats

Do they have a real penchant for climbing? Milly is the most destructive cat I have ever had....I am sure it is not intentional but she seems to love to climb shelves etc and ends up knocking everything off. I suppose most cats would give themselves a good scare the first time they smashed something, but Milly cannot hear a thing so carries on along a shelf knocking everything off along her path. Absolute mayhem.

Re: Owners of deaf cats

I had a deaf cat that was a climber (moreso than other cats I've had) but I don't know if that was her personality or if it was somehow related to her being deaf.

She also loved watching tv and, in particular, helping Vanna White turn the letters on Wheel of Fortune (this is going back some years); she fell off the tv and broke her leg that way.

Re: Owners of deaf cats

We had a lovely deaf white cat when i was growing up, she was originally called snowy but it eventually changed to "Madam" as thats exactly what she was -not that she cared, she couldn't hear my mum shouting at her for knocking off yet another vase/cup/plate/picture

She had the loudest purr too, she could sit at the bottom of the stairs and you could hear her clear as day upstairs NEXT DOOR

Re: Owners of deaf cats

I have read that they do climb more than other cats and want to be up high all the time....cant quite see what the link is with the deafness though.

They can't hear a predator coming, up high = safer

Its all to do with the senses hun, because they cant hear they feel safer up higher as they can see dangers but cant hear them, so the higher they are the more likely they are to spot something that maybe a danger to them x

I did think of that, but she has always been deaf so wouldnt know what it was to be able to hear a predator.
The only thing she is in danger of is all the broken glass and crockery.
