Re: The mandatory Chip N Snip Petition from us at Animal Lifeline UK

I am all for sterilisation of non-pedigrees, but I think you will struggle to get buy-in from many people for a blanket rule, especially dog people who seem to have all kinds of issues when it comes to their dogs' gonads.
Microchipping I am strongly in favour of.

Anyway, KJ, well done for taking the initiative at least, which is more than most of us would have done. As you are involved in animal rescue, you should be accustomed to the fact that no good deed goes unpunished.

Re: The mandatory Chip N Snip Petition from us at Animal Lifeline UK

I will have a look and see if we can change it to word it better and perhaps do one for dogs and one for cats, etc As 6 months for cats, rabbits to be neutered is a good age for them but not as great for dogs. We have tried to put all animals in one where as I can see now that its probably best to do two it will mean people have to sign two but at least it will be clearer, as the trouble with these things is you only have a short space to put what you want to say,so have to try to word it and shorten what you what to say,but when you do that people misunderstand what you are trying to say in the first place. Also even though I personally have done no research for this another member of the team has done a great deal of research for this, but as I said I think its better to spilt it and do two separate instead.

I am used to it now, I just take it with a pinch of salt, ok so this may not have been the best one as we have tried to put all animals together but at least we have now found that out sooner rather than later and we can still change it. These things are all about trail and error and you have to get everyone's views to know how best to do things. But as you say at least we are trying to do something about it

maybe the other member of the team should do some research into cat breeds that mature far later than the standard 6 months? or individual cats who mature far later

any blanket statement that all cats have to be neutered at 6 months just isn't going to get anywhere, you have to set realistic goals to stand any chance of success

Re: The mandatory Chip N Snip Petition from us at Animal Lifeline UK

I will be signing it.... there may be things that need 'ironing out' but the general view is correct. Interesting that some of those who won't sign it are .....breeders ! Vested interest or what?
