Question Advice about kitten and genral chat.

Hi, my name is Yasmine, I've currently aquired a kitten, she's 9 weeks old and 1 day and we've had her in the house since August the 6th. She's got a gorgeous little face, with a white line underneath her right eye, hehe, enough about that, I need some advice on her.

She's REALLY into biting things, me and my mum were woundering if kittens teeth like a human baby would do? I did some research on google and found that apperantly around about four months old their teeth fall out? I asked my neighbour who has had cats for 20 years of her life and she said this was nonsense, but then, she also told me that if Allie ate flys it would make her thin and my neighbour is terribly old , so I thought I'd come here for advice on that.

When we got her we noticed on her belly there is a bit of a bolge, it's not causing her problems or discomfort, at first we thought it might of been like a fatty pouch? but she's bolked up a lot since she's been here and it still appears to there, however not as noticeable, so kittens get fatty pouches?

Every morning when someone gets up Allie will run up to our legs and put her front paws around our legs, the first time without her claws out, but the times after that she will have her claws slightly out and often bite our legs, is this her greeting us or just a bad habit? (the bite isn't a hard or painful one, perhaps could be whats known as a cat 'love bite'?)

She's nutty as a kitten can be and has some very strange habits, I'd love to hear about your kittens of simular ages and hope I can talk to some people so that I can understand my kitten's behaviour and body language a bit better.

she loves to bunny kick my hand! haha

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

So she was 6 weeks when you got her? I can't offer much advice apart from it could be due to the fact she was taken from her mum far too early and never got the chance to learn proper behaviour from her.

Hopefully someone else will have some advice for you though

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

Hi ya Jasmine and welcome

sorry i cant give you advice about kittens as ive only had older cats but i must say your pics are gorgeous, she has very nice colouring. But i will say that its nonsence about the flies lol! Cats eat flies all the time, they are great fly catchers!

Have you got lots of toys for her??? And a cat scratching post?

Somebody will be able to help you out soon though as they always do on here!

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

She was nearly 7 weeks when we took her, 6 weeks and 5 days, she seems fine to take from her mother, her mother was only up the road so if we felt it was too soon then we would take her back straight away, but Allie settled in great + the person who owns the mum said the mother was hardly ever going in to see them. I keep bugging my parents about getting Allie a stratching post but my dad is admitment that he's going to make her one..even though he's currently making a hutch (it's more like a mansion for Ferrets, when he's finished I'll upload a picture, there's only 2 of them aswell!) for our two ferrets, he's one of them men that insist on making everything for himself. :P But yes she does despratley need one. But she does have plently of toys..I have a younger brother who is 7 and she loves playing with his toys aswell, we had a toy that we would hang from the door for her but unfortunatly she loved that toy TOO much and the string snapped on it. I had a feeling the fly eating was nonsense :P she ate some moths yesterday..minger. haha! thanks anyway!

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

6-7 weeks really is too early for kittens to leave because 6-12 weeks is the crucial stage where they're learning 'cat manners' from their Mum and littermates.

Have you taken her to the vet yet?

With regards to her tummy bulge, has she been wormed? If not I would get her along to the vets for a thorough check up and ask them to prescribe some worming medication

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

We're taking her to the vets soon to have her vaccinations, we're going to ask the vet to give her a check over to see if she's healthy, no we haven't dewormed her yet as we haven't found a product that can be used on a kitten of her age? she did come to us with fleas though and have deflead her, you don't think she may have worms aswell do you? what are other signs that she has them?

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

I was unaware until now that she was obviously far too young to be taken away from mum, the owners seemed pretty desprate to give the kittens away as the room they were staying in was being redecorated within a few days of us taking Allie, I feel pretty bad for taking her away so young now, but she seems to be okay in the enviroment and she did settle in very quickly, she loves being around us, so surley that's a good sign?

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

6-7 weeks is to early to leave the mother, the best time is between 12-14weeks :-)
I'd probably get her wormed too, is she eating alot?? Maybe get her into the vets this afternoon or tomorrow and see if they can give her a health check x

Re: Advice about kitten and genral chat.

If she had fleas, it is more likely that she also has worms because infected fleas can transmit worms. You really should get her to a vet sooner rather than later.
