What to do?

I posted yesterday about hopefully getting two kittens from my boyfriend's dad's customer. They are from a farm but although the mum is a pet I'm a little sceptical - mainly from a few things that have been said. Boyfriend's mum said yesterday she thought they were steading cats, boyfriend's dad said when he saw them they were in a big basket type thing, boyfriend's dad said customer asked what age I wanted them and when boyfriend's dad said old enough to be able to be left alone for a bit the customer replied saying "so about half litter trained?". Now that got me thinking because he thinks they are about 9 weeks (his wife wasn't there and he doesn't have much to do with them) but surely by 9 weeks they should be litter trained? Then I thought about the fact the mum is clearly an outdoor cat so might not even use a litter tray?

This is where it gets complicated, someone local is having to rehome her two 4 month old kittens due to her son's asthma. They are used to dogs and are fine when left. Now, do I go for the kittens I'm sceptical about and may have to help litter train or the 4 month olds that are already litter trained, used to dogs and fine being left alone?

Think I just answered my own question there be good to get some input though.

Honestly everything about those farm kittens is screaming negative things to me. Not litter trained at 9 weeks is unusual. How much time with mum have they had if shes outdoor and theyre inside in a basket?

'old enough to be left alone for a bit' what does that even mean?

I dont know what a steading cat is btw lol

Lol my boyfriend's dad was meaning old enough to be left when I'm at work, but the reply about being litter trained worried me. I have no idea about time they've spent with mum as his wife has been away all weekend and he doesn't know much about them.

A steading cat is basically just a farm cat, lives outside. Suppose you could call them feral, or at least semi tame.
