Spaying questions

Hi again,

I'm getting ready to book my babies into the vets to be spayed it scares the crap outta me but I know it needs to be done.

I'm gonna be booking them both in for the same day (Mon 3rd Oct) and have the week booked off work so I can look after them.

Question is, is there anything I need to think of in advance?

I currently have 1 cat carrier so I presume I am gonna need another one?

They will be made to wear the collars of shame by the vets but how do I stop them licking each other?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Becky

Re: Spaying questions

Sperate them after the surgery. It will be tough, but having just had a few problems with a spay myself it is really important you do this. Check they can access their food bowls/litter trays with the collar on.

Im sure theyll be absolutely fine

Would this stress them out?? They've been together practically 24/7 since birth, if one wanders out of the room without the other noticing the crying starts

Re: Spaying questions

They should be fine together as long as they don't pull at the sutures and wound. Licking is fine as long as the wound doesn't get affected.

Also 1 cat carrier is fine if they can both fit in comfortably together. When I took Amber and Lynx in 1 cat carrier to the vets they cuddled up to each other and enjoyed eath others company.

Thanks for the advice. I've seen on here that someone bandaged up their kitty after being neutered, is this recommended??

Re: Spaying questions

Hey,

We just took our two kittens to be neutered just over a week ago and we've had no problems. Vet didnt put collars on them and they've been absolutely fine! To be honest we barely even noticed a difference in them. You should be fine with one carrier providing they can both fit in it comfortably!

Hope this helps

Re: Spaying questions

Can I just say - don't worry (easy I know!)

When Archie was done about a month ago, he came back raring to go! For the boys as it is all external it seems such a minor op!

with girl's it is slightly worse as they are shaved, the scar is larger and it looks sore. Ella was fine after hers and we just had to be careful she didn't lick the wound. Again no collar.

Cleo had a very fresh wound when we collected her from rescue and it has healed wonderfully in a week!

You are being silly for worrying (ok I actually cried with fear when mine were done but that is a minor detail!!)

Re: Spaying questions

I would just err on the side of caution re no collars/ being together. Without going into the ins and outs of it, vets do say a wound can become infected if a cat licks at it. Im just telling you from my experience,I wouldnt want what happened to me to happen to you

If they have tendency to go at the wound/sutures the bandage works well as long as it is not too tight.

Prefably I prefer using cotton wool under the gauze/mesh bandage, since it allows their skin to breath and keeps the cotton wool in place without constricting their abdomen.

I will take a picture of my cat carrier and post on here. It can hold 2 fully grown moggy cats also, since lynx fits fine width wise.
