Back from the vets.

Pixie has no more milk so I have to hand-rear the kittens until they are ready for weaning, they've taken her bloods today also as they said her calcium levels aren't high enough, especially since she isn't eating at the moment. :-( but they said she can be spayed in about a week.

Re: Back from the vets.

Sorry to hear this. Sounds as if you'll have your work cut out hand-rearing the little ones.

Did a vet actually mean she has low calcium levels? Or just not high enough for feeding? Did he give any indication of what was wrong with her since she didn't sound too well last night?

Re: Back from the vets.

She just said that they would take some blood to check her calcium levels as what I described to her sounded like that, her heart rate was a little fast which the vet said could be due to stress, and her temp was slightly up but not majorly and she seemed exhausted. She still won't eat anything either. Just wish I had noticed the lack of milk supply earlier :-( they had been gaining weight each day though which is why I thought they we're doing well

Re: Back from the vets.

Thanks guys *hugs* the kitten's are 3 weeks old tomorrow. I managed to get Pix to eat a small amount of chicken and the kitten's are putting on weight so they must of been getting something from her. I wish those who breed moggies deliberately understood just how hard it is not only emotionially but financially and physically, maybe then they would think twice

Gosh no don't blame yourself at all! Sounds to me you acted as promptly as you could-I don't think this has been going on for long at all. Anyway it's not a firm diagnosis as yet. She sounds as if she's possiblly got an infection etc to me though. I'm sure the vet will be able to tell you more when blood results come back! Glad to hear she's eating though.

Good luck with the feeding.

Re: Back from the vets.

Thanks, it's harder then I thought it would be, the milk they gave me is different to what I had (mine was a royal canin milk) and seems thicker then this one, I feel like I'm feeding them dish water since thats what the milk looked like when I mixed it.

Re: Back from the vets.

Cimicat is the preferred kitten milk hun. I know plenty use others but I hear of more success on the Cimicat. However the bottles that come with the RC are said to be the best, so keep using them

Hun, you're doing all you can, so don't beat yourself up. Hopefully Pixie will be much better soon. I'd go for the option of spaying her next week too cause if she comes back into call you may end up with a whole load of new problems that you don't need.

Good look with feeding the little ones, and hopefully Pixie will continue to help raising them in other ways. Does she still toilet them?
