Scatty Kitten...

Hi All,

Some of you might have seen my posts since we got Amber- she is now 12 weeks and becoming a bit of a nightmare!

Don't get me wrong, she still falls asleep on my lap (2 hours last night) and purrs when we come home etc but since the weekend (and still now) she is...the only word i can think of is 'scatty'.

Running around constantly, eyes wide and dark, attacking EVERYTHING (me, my OH, our feet, our fingers when we reach for something, shoes, scratching the carpet...

Is there anything i can do to calm her down?

I know she is a kitten and just playing but i haven't seen her like this before and it's as if she is angry or something...

She is playing with her toys, eating normally, and as i said still purring when we stroke her etc.

I have a Feliway plug in that i have had for a couple of weeks now.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

xxx

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Hmmm... Maybe it's just a "hyper kitten" thing? I think she'll grow out of it so I wouldn't worry too much xxxx

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Well Tucker is just like that.
Iam sure he will grow out of it though He`s 11 weeks or so.
Just keep trying to teach her what she can and can not do.
Did that with my last cat, and by the time he was 1 he was nice and half way layed back.

Re: Scatty Kitten...

I think it's normal for some kittens. Sam was an absolute lunatic when he was a kitten. He was either running around, jumping on things, attacking things, or asleep. There didn't seem to be anything between the two. I just made sure he had LOTS of toys and I played with him whenever I could. Milly was totally different, and she spent most of her time just watching Sam's antics.

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Thanks :-) is it normal to be scratching and biting me though? Even when I tell her no and pull her off me?

Yep it`s normal, sorry to say.

Try playing with a toy on a string. it helps alot. tire her out befor trying to hold and pet her.

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Well she should only really just be leaving her mum and siblings this week. All that energy and the biting and scratching ... If she had still been with mum and sister she would have been taught when enough is enough.

How much is she eating a day? Kittens should be fed as much as they want, no limitations. The only way you know they are eating enough is if they start to leave a bit. Feeding up to about 6 meals a day is ideal.

One of my girls goes scatty (running around like crazy etc etc) when she is hungry

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Yeah she always has food down I don't withold it from her.

I know she shouldn't have been given to us yet, but I didn't know that until I joined this forum. I wish we had got her when she was older as I do think she missed out on those last few weeks with her mum. But as I said I didn't know this until we already had her :-(

Re: Scatty Kitten...

You weren't to know hun, so don't feel bad. I still would love to see some awareness of the fact though as so many people don't realise

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the paper bag video yesterday She does sound very playful ... have you considered a second kitten to keep her entertained? If you work it's also a good idea so the little one has company.

Re: Scatty Kitten...

Lol yeah she does have her cute moments!

We have thought of it but worry that they wouldn't get along and then we would be in an even worse situation...plus the vet bills would be a bit too much for us to afford unfortunately :-(
