Smile Can Cats detect when they are doing the wrong thing? xx

In my street, there are many cats. There is a particular Cat that I personally love and spend alot of time in the street with. Pippin is a really loving cat and is very gentle. He stays like that when my best friend comes over for tea and yesterday when my baby ( Not so baby now!! He's 3. ) cousin came round, he was calm when Jack went to stroke him. A couple of weeks ago, when I wasn't broken up for holidays, I was going into my house and Pippin was waiting outside as usual. He was starting to come in so I said very firmly "No, Pippin!!" The next day, it was the same. After a couple of days, I was expecting him to come in, but he waited patiently outside while days before, he was always forcing his way past my legs into the house. I think that he has learnt to not go into my house.
P.s
I went outside again with some water for him in a small bowl and I forgot my keys, so I was locked out. He waited with me until my mum came home which was 20 mins later. He kept snuggling up to me even though I was not his owner. Everytime I go past him, I give him a cuddle because of what he did for me, he could of walked away and left me.

What do you think? Does your Cats know when to not do something? How loyal do you reckon your cats are?

RainbowMuncher xx

They do learn to associate certain acts with certain things yes. As you were telling him off before, he has learned that he doesnt get any reward from doing it. Same way my cats dont go behind the TV anymore and dont go on the kitchen counters, as I would shake a plastic bag which made them get off.

Gloworm also knows is he rolls onto his back in the kitchen he gets a treat, so does that everytime he wants one :P

So I dont think its so much knowing what is wrong, but knowing what gets them what they want :P

oooh 'behind the TV' thats the one thing that annoys me as there are lots of cables there and its hard to get them out.
My daughters 20 week kitten came to stay. she would walk along the TV table and I'd shout #no Lola' ! as she went to go behind the flat screen, and yes drop down behind tv where its hard to get her out... I'd do it, she'd scamper off and a few minutes she was back to do it again...kittens are devils.

My 3 yr old cat ignores the tv and would n't dream of going behind there. Strange but they soon learn I suppose.

My kittens have yet to learn not to go behind the TV! Little monkeys... They just sit where they know I cant get to them and look at me smugly hehe

I think the older cats deffinately learn what's right from wrong - we're currently battling with one of our cats to stop jumping onto the kitchen surfaces, we just plonk her down on the floor time after time when she does it but she's learning, slowly but surely haha xx

If Biffy gets up on the kitchen tops, I say "down" and point at the floor. He'll meow but come down, he sooooo knows he's not meant to be up there. Tin foil puts him off scratching places he's not meant to. With biting and swiping, ignoring is working. I think sometimes he just gets too excited and forgets but then he looks sorry!!

I think they do know when they're doing wrong. Holly isn't allowed up the stairs so she almost never does it, but if you catch her she's down the stairs like a shot.
