Re: Can Cats Live With Other Small Animals?xx

as long as you dont leave them alone with the hamster out of its cage it will all be fine. i used to put mine in his car and he used to chase the cats. also i have a rabbit that everyone said my cats would attack but i found out that my cats are scared of him and he chases them haha

Re: Can Cats Live With Other Small Animals?xx

I had a cat ten years ago (he now lives with my parents) While he was with us one day he had managed to open the door to the living room while we were out and lets just say, there were less fish in the tank when we arrived home.
Also the hamster cage was on the floor, door open and we never found the hamster. Now its all circumstantial evidence but he's the prime suspect to this day.
They were kept in a seperate room bu the wiley b*gger managed to open the door

Yeah, it's mildly irritating. Not the feedback part, I couldn't give a monkey's, but the comment was patronising.

exactly!

most of us on here have a range of different pets, including that person.

mine was the same "No one should encourage prey animals to stay with hunter animals, they are never 100% safe."

i didnt say it was! that you have to be cautious.. just the same as having any animal.. dogs with dogs.. dogs and cats.. etc etc

I cant remember saying "go ahead and get a cat and a hamster and let them play together"

Re: Can Cats Live With Other Small Animals?xx

i think it depends! i had twix and i also had 26 rats and never had one problem with knocking cages over - saying that the cages were 4ft and 3 ft high so that`s maybe why but then my rats used to have loads of free roam and run across twix and he wouldn`t care. since getting lacey however, any small animal like gerbils/hamsters we`ve had hasn`t stood a chance and she`s knocked the cages over and went in for the kill as soon as she does so we can`t keep them anymore for their own safety i guess in my experience it depends on the cat, if i just had twix i wouldn`t have to think twice but with lacey it`s a no go

we do have rabbits though and the cats have been fine with them, i know they`re not really small but they do still come under the small animals bracket. that being said - twix is NOT a normal cat and doesn`t care and lacey has been brought up with rabbits since i had her at 10 weeks old so maybe that`s why? lacey and my sweep were inseparable at one point it was so cute and twix would even let sweep steal his dried food - twix doesn`t share his dried food (sweep shouldn`t have been eating it either the little git was so fast to get to it). just to prove the can get along:

and, my old neighbor`s cat i used to look after who loved my rat monty
