Smile What does everyone think? xx

Hi, I'm new and I'm wondering what type of Cat/Kitten I should get. I have a small Garden that is paved, I don't live on a busy road so the Cat/Kitten can go outside during the day. There is loads of cats living in my road and I occasionly pet some of them. I have been wanting a Cat/Kitten for years and years but my Mum hasn't been too keen. My dad and I have tried persuading her and finally after myself and my dad bugging her, she said yes!! I don't want it to be too much fuss in brushing and having to deal with mats is a definitely a no. So, does that means that a longhair is out of the question? Which is the best breed?
Thankyou,
RainbowMuncher xx
(Helena)

Re: What does everyone think? xx

Thankyou for answering so quickly I'm not quite sure, as my parents don't mind what we get, but I would love to get a pedigree. We aren't planning to breed her/him so it wouldn't matter. I just wanted to see what is the most popular breed for a Cat/Kitten in the City that doesn't require too much work as I'm at school for 8 hours and my dad at work for 12 hours. I don't want to leave the feeding and cleaning and grooming all to my mum.
Thanks,
RainbowMuncher xx

I agree! Have a poddle to a local rescue, there's no commitment or pressure to take anyone home and see all the lovely kittens and cats needing homes.

I recommend this highly as Friday our rescue came to us and as I type this she is asleep on my lap, away from hurt and the harsh streets with two people who will love her forever.

It's so sad some of the reasons these cats are there. Mostly kittens who, 1 year down the line were kicked out of the house for a darling baby. Or were the illustration of a couple's love for each other, until they split up and neither wanted the cat. So very, very sad

Have a chat with recue and they will help match a cat/kitten to your needs.#

They may have a cat or a pair that would be happy to be alone for a bit. There are so many cats in rescue .

We got our new cat from a rescue and she has been with us for a week and we love her so much. The rescue really helped whittle down the cats into possible cats that would be suitable for us.

Re: What does everyone think? xx

Thankyou again to you Golgotha tramp and EAC xx I would love to do that Hopefully I will have the time to go to the local shelter. But I'm not sure where it is. I'll have a look on the internet and see. Does the shelter have kittens as well? Sorry, it may be a really stupid question, but I'm new to this. And I'm only young xx
Thanks,
RainbowMuncher xx

Re: What does everyone think? xx

Yes they will but if you are out of the house for such a long time a kitten may not be ideal (as they are like babies - needing care, supervision, regular feeding etc.)

Mitzi, our cat is only just over one and is still as playful as a kitten but doesn't need constant supervision. As EAC said, the rescue can look at your family's lifestyle and pair you up with cat(s)/kitten(s) that will slot in perfectly.

If you look on the Cat's protection league and RSPCA websites I think they will have a locator that will find your closest shelter.

Re: What does everyone think? xx

At this time of year they are overrun with Kittens. if you are out all day they may wnat you to rehome two kittens as one kitten alone can get into loads of trouble. Maybe a young cat would be good. My cat Cleo is probably under a year and is still very young and playful. She was suggested to us as she was very adaptable to get on with our others cats.

There are lots of rescues, some also have facebook pages(If you are on facebook) that show pic of the cats and their stories.
