weaning and litter training kittens...advise please..
Hi there i have 7 kittens who are now 4 weeks old i spoke to the vet and she said it's ok to try weaning them now as mum is a little overwhelmed at having them all feeing especially when they all pound on her at once!!
i'm just wanting some advise on where to start really?and also with the litter training does this start at the same time as weaning or after? thanks...... |

Re: weaning and litter training kittens...advise please..
At 4 week`s I think is early, mother will wean the kitten`s and liter train them when the time come`s...Inless it`s her frist liter and she don`t know what to do.
You can start by putting wet food down, and a liter tray that is not to high for the kitten`s to get into. A pluss eather way as the mother could use the extra food. Hope that helps. Soory people talking to me all at once here. Anyway`s can you try bottle feeding 3- 4 of the kitten`s to help mom ?

Re: weaning and litter training kittens...advise please..
I ditto the above poster, put some wet food down and they should learn from mum eating that they should eat it too. Place a litter tray in with them that kittens can get into easily what I will say is use a non clumping litter, I usually use wood pellet litter as kittens have a tendancy to eat some of the litter. Other types may cause problems if eaten whereas the wood stuff just breaks down to sawdust if ingested.

Re: weaning and litter training kittens...advise please..
My Rosie has 5 kittens and they are 4 weeks and i caught Arnie licking the dry food that is available 24/7.
So i made up a slop and put it next to Rosies wet food and Arnie went and sat in the bowl and ate like a piggy. The other kittens were not bothered so i didnt pursue it. I make a slop now every morning and just leave it there for them. If your kittens dont want to eat wet food dont force it, just make a slop and mum cat will eat it if the kittens dont. Our vet advised us that this was the best way to go about things. Good luck |

Re: weaning and litter training kittens...advise please..
I love wood pellets but the silly Rosie doesnt and yes my kittens try to eat the cat litter. Wonder if i should put pellets in the kittens litter and let Rosie use the other 2 in the house...
Thanks kittensfostermummy. ![]() |

Kitten`s learn by watching mom, eatting, liter training, hunting etc.
So would put more into mom and she should do the rest.

Wow thats such an amazing thing you have done.
And i can imagine 7 kitties being a real handful for your mummy cat. 5 is proving to be real hard work for rosie so cant imagine the extra 2. |
