Re: accident on sofa again

How old is he? If he's weed there before how did you clean the area? Sometimes if they can still smell urine it will attrct them to use the same place again

Alot of people recommend using a biological washing powder mixed in to a paste, put it on the area & leave for a while then wash as normal.

Has he got direct access to his letter tray? Maybe add another one.

Hope you can get this sorted!

Re: accident on sofa again

Hi

He's 18 and he does have CRF - although his levels were checked a week ago and have come right down. The vet thinks that he is just sleeping very deeply these days and not realising he's doing it.

Luckily I have his blanket, then a throw on the sofa so the cushions themselves aren't getting soaked. The covers are removable so everything goes in the wash. This time though he must have been quite squidged up against the back cushion as that cover was damp and it has soaked through. Its in the same place as last time as that's his "spot" on the sofa. It was all washed last time and I check daily, this has happened during the night.

He has access to his litter tray, I only changed it last night before I went to bed and he has used it over night.

Re: accident on sofa again

Sorry, I didn't realise he was older & had CRF. I only have experience of one elderly cat (Cleo) who was my first cat & as she was around 17/18 I did start noticing the odd wet patch. I think this was due to her sleeping & not realising

Re: accident on sofa again

Sorry to hear this. Older cats do sometimes become a bit careless in their toilet habits, so you might have to watch out for this, at his age. You could try getting a second litter tray so that he's got options if for some reason he's farther away from the first tray.

For removing urine smells, try Urine-off spray.

Re: accident on sofa again

I use a mix of 1 part water, 1 part white vinegar (NOT the type you use on fish&chips )

After washing with an antibac, I soak the material through with the vinegar solution and wait for it to dry. The vinegar neutralises the urine. It smells very strongly of vinegar at first but soon dies down and then I just febreze it.
