Preventing Tom cat spraying

On 5th sept I pick up my cat. A 1 yr old Tom cat.
I intend to get him neutered after he's had a week or so to settle in a bit but I'm a bit concerned about him spraying. His owner says he never has done it before but i wonder if he might with it being a new house.
I'm getting her to give him a blanket between now and then that he can bring with him with his scent on.
Any tips or advice?

^^^Agree with feliway diffuser ,but I would suggest that you plug it in a few days before you bring him home as it does take a while to start working ,spreading the pheromones Bestpet Pharmacy - -Feliway Diffuser Plug In Just a thought ,would his current owner consider ,even if you have to pay for it,having him neutered before you take him to live with you.It would be something less for him to deal with in his new home.

Re: Preventing Tom cat spraying

I've asked if she could find out the price from her vet to have him neutered next week. Maybe then she could take him and I will call them and pay over the telephone on the day before she collects him. I've never met the lady so although she seems lovely its maybe not a good idea to just send money to her.
Will see what she says ...

Thanks for the Feliway tip, bloomin expensive but may be worth it to start with if she cannot get him neutered first. Saying that though, how common is it for neutered cats to spray still? I hear that they do
