On the case of the gender, we have no preference. It really depends on the personality. We're looking to adopt and most likely just a mixed cat. :3
Unless you are tied up with money, 2 cats isn't more harder than 1 cat and brings more fun to your life and less worrying about them when you have to go to work or to the shops.

Having 2 is all about having peace of mind that your little bundles of joy have each other and not sitting at home lonely.

Oooh pleeease get a rescue. They are so in need of love.
Also it works out great as they are fully vaccinated, microchipped, flea'd and wormed before you get them. Of course if you are looking for a kitten it will not be neutered but a lot of rescues give you a voucher so that when the time comes to have it done you don't have to pay.

(It will be an indoor cat)

Litter tray, scratching post (to prevent cats from scratching on your furniture), food and water bowls, toys, condo and bed, cat carrier, flea comb are some of the basic essential things you have to keep for your kitten.
