Double drama on a Sunday morning
Drama #1
Wilbur gets onto a fence and doesn't know how to get down so is meowing for me. Oscar is at the bottom on the fence, on the other side of the garden meowing for my attention too to alert me. Thankfully both cats respond so well to their names that Oscar came to me as soon as I called him. To get Wilbur down I had to step on an old mattress base turned on its side that someone had chucked out and then lift him off the fence. Drama #2 Wilbur relaxing in the sunshine and Oscar decides to climb a tree. He get to the fork in the tree around 15ft up and needless to say can't get down. Again, it is very good that he responds so well when called as it stopped him going any higher. My husband had to climb up a step ladder and hold a chair upside down in his arms so Oscar has something to jump down onto. Needless to say both cats are inside until both trees are secured with cat deterrents for trees! Care & Safety - Cats - Cat Deterrent Good practice to see what they will get up to though. Fences I can cope with - trees I can not. |

Re: Double drama on a Sunday morning
I have now ordered the cat deterrents for the trees but for now have fashioned a chicken wire cone on to one of them and put foil around the other trunks.
Funnily enough both cats seem to be avoiding the trees at the moment. Will bring them in shortly as it is very windy and I suspect will pour down pretty soon. Incidentally the internet is full of stories of cats up trees but suggests leaving them up there as they need to learn how to turn backwards and climb down. ![]() |

Re: Double drama on a Sunday morning
Haha, its never boring with the cats
They can go anywhere, but the problem arises when they need to get back.PS. I never heard of those cat deterents before, but doubt they could be of much help for me, as there are way too many trees around for those to be helpful.

Re: Double drama on a Sunday morning
When I lived in London there were some big old pine trees in the garden. I had a young cat at the time called Bosie - aprrox 7 mths - and one day I could hear him miaowing like crazy. I went out and, sure enough, there he was stuck up one of these trees. So I trotted off, got the step ladder, clambered up and, perching right on the very top step, was just able to get a hold of him and bring him down. He sprinted off into the house and I followed.
Well, 20 mins later where was the little sod?????? Right back up the same sodding tree!!!!!!!! ![]() That time I just looked up, told him that he had gotten himself up there and he could get himself down. Which he duly did about half an hour later!!! ![]() Glad the Jedwards are ok hun but I'll bet they nearly weren't by the time your OH was done. ![]()

Re: Double drama on a Sunday morning
Hmmm... The first time we let ours out, one got stuck in a tree and my hubby had to climb up to get him, it was all very worrying. However, since then both cats have tried to convince me they were stuck up a fence/tree from time to time but have managed to miraculously get down again when they discovered I wasn't coming up to get them. So I am doubtful as to how often cats really get stuck (I am sure it does happen occasionally) and how often they would just rather someone came to get them

Re: Double drama on a Sunday morning
Wilbur jumped on to the fence again and I left him to it as I know he jumps down further than that in the flat. In the end he was to-ing and fro-ing so I lifted him off, as I thought perhaps he couldn't spot any free space on the ground (there is a bundle of netting in that corner. I know deep down he can do it himself though so I should have left him for longer.
I do think that they will find a way to get where they want though, and Oscar may have found a way down from the tree yesterday too. We got him down as slightly further up we could see a nest so thought he may try and get further up, an we wanted to protect the birds. The tree protector should arrive by Friday which will be the next time they are allowed out. However I feel the fences they should figure out for themselves. Has anyone ever put wire across the top of their fence to stop cats from jumping onto them and does it work? |
