Question spaying..

Albie's kittens are now 5 weeks and a day, and I'm looking at getting mum spayed. Only the vets say they can't spay her until the kittens are weaned and her milk has dried up.. I've provisionally booked her in on the 26th, but am now starting to think this may be a bit too early?
The kittens are now eating solids and using the litter trays.. but are also still nursing occasionally. When are they likely to not need mum at all, and how long will her milk take to dry up? x

Re: spaying..

If you want things to take a natural course you can expect her to carry on feeding them until they are 12 weeks or more. Maybe only occasionally, and may even skip a day towards the end

I'd personally wait until at least then. Just be sure not to let her go outside before then and get pregnant again. Not just for that reason but also even if you did get her spayed before then and let her out, she could still potential bring illness back into the house. That's not a good idea with kittens who have either not yet been vaccinated or only just.

Re: spaying..

Well, I've managed to convince hubby to let me keep them all, so I'm sure they'll be feeding until mum gets fed up. I shall cancel the appointment for now then. She's already desperatley trying to get outside, we have 2 tom's that keep visiting around the house, and she's calling like mad! Thanks for the advice
