So ready for a kitten

but yet worried it will be a kitten that is awake all nights and ruin the wallpapers in my house (I am a single mother that is why I need my sleep and a house not making it £££ expensive when moving).
So I am meddling between getting the kitten or not cause of being afraid of not getting any sleep or getting my place ruined
Am I right to worry so much about this? Or am I just being silly?

Re: So ready for a kitten

Well personally I think you need to be prepared that your house won't ever be the same again!!

From personal experience, sleep will be disrupted ... though that does get better with time, stuff in your house will get ruined, a cat loves to scratch stuff other than their scratch posts, they will cost money .... spaying, injections, food, toys (the list is endless), they will want fussing over!

So the question was .... are you right to worry so much? hmmmmm Everything I have said is true, in my case, BUT and this is a very BIG but, the unconditional love they give you far out weighs any concerns I had.

It is all down to whether you want the 'hassle' and the love

+1

The best thing about getting a kitten is watching it's *purrsonality* develop, the worst is that they aren't kittens for very long. Hours of fun and hours of worry, but there's a lot more of the former

If you're in any way worried about home furnishings, get an older cat. Kittens will sometimes break/scratch things. They are insane at times as well. But such fun.

I agree with Pheebs, kittens very soon grow up into cats and there are plenty of older cats in rescues awaiting a loving home. There's less chance of an adult cat keeping you up all night and wrecking the house

Re: So ready for a kitten

The only thing you should be worried about is the cat using your carpet or lounge as a scratching post. But that's why you buy one for them. I lived in a house that had wall paper and I had two cats. They didn't rip it up at all.

It's not furnishings I worry about, it's things that belong to the apartment like the wallpapers!

I have bought a scratching post but still kind of worried about the kitten wanting the wallpapers and to be awake all night. My mom said if the kitten plays nighttime I could easily put her/him in the kitchen, but still doubt I would be able to sleep and I know by experience most cats dont like being locked into a room!

Re: So ready for a kitten

Hi Nejlika, if you have a scratch post that he likes its unlikely that he/she will start scratching at your wallpaper. one very good tip is to buy some good cat-nip, we buy ours at our local spice store its so much fresher than the stuff they sell in pet shops, get some of the cat-nip and rub it into his scratch post this will encourage him to use the post , and its funny watching their antics once they sniff the cat-nip too, hope this helps..............Chris

Many thanks Chris, this was a great advice!
I will definitely do this.
Do you think the kitten can easily adopt to live indoors as the breeder has stupidly enough let the kitten out to play quite a lot?
Also do you think many kittens are awake a lot in the night so much to keep the house awake? I am quite sensitive to noice, especially when falling asleep! LOL!
