Hi, just a quick question, when can I expect Maisie to have her first call, she's 6 months on Friday and I can't say I've noticed her have one so far unless it's been a silent one, she hasn't displayed any signs etc! I've read alot about them being very noisy, rubbing, bum up etc but we've had none of that so far! Is it anytime from 4-10 months ish?

Re: When to expect 1st call?
Thanks you two! I've been looking out for it but nothing yet! Planning on getting her done pretty soon, our vet spays at 5-6 months depending on weight/ size.
I've toyed with breeding as I'd love to show her, looked into going to a local(ish) show, I can't make my mind up, their aren't many 'proper' breeders where we are but I don't think the timings quite right so going with getting her spayed after our next holiday. Quote:
You can still show her after she has been spayed - ask your vet about a midline spay. I would say that it is easier to show a spayed cat than a breeding queen as you have time things between kittens. Am I right in thinking that Maisie isn't GCCF registered? If that's the case you can still show at GCCF shows as a pet Welcome to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy If you are serious about breeding go along to some shows and talk to the breeders there. Find out as much as you can about the breed and about what breeding entails.

Re: When to expect 1st call?
Thanks Lyn, no she is GCCF reg
![]() We weren't waiting for a call before spaying it's just timing with our vets & holidays plus I couldn't make my mind up!I've got the info for the show saved in my bookmarks...got a few months yet so will ask the vet, I've also got a very local 'cat only' vet which may be better, I've never been to it just phoned for cattery info! Edited to add: just checked & the show is closer than I thought doh! May get her spayed & wait for the next show in my area, would be good experience. Re: When to expect 1st call?
Sorry - my error ![]() ![]() Definitely go for the mid-line spay when you get her done as the colour in colour points can change slightly. I remember taking one of my girls many years ago and the vet asked if I wanted a mid-line. I said, 'No, she's not good enough to show so it doesn't matter.' he told me to cover her ears, I shouldn't say things like that in front of her ![]()
