Re: risks...

What must be done to stop this happening is to force the makers of anti-freeze to add a compound that makes it repellent to cats; this can be done very easily without affecting how the anti-freeze works. Write to your local MP - I have done three times without response, but your MP might be more sympathetic to cats. All that's needed is a simple and straightforward law, but an MP needs to put forward a motion to make it happen.[/QUOTE]

did you keep a copy of the email you sent? if so please post it here and we can all copy it to our MPs

Re: risks...

Sadly this kind of thing can happen beause even though its all within a nile or so people just dont talk to each other and so may not know their cats are in danger.
I lost one to poison and had 2 caught in traps (resulting in major scarring for one and a leg amputation for another). I found out that loads of people in the area had pets injured, poisoned or just vanished when I went door to door looking for one of mine that was missing.
Its def safer to keep them in..

It was good old snail mail, I'm afraid - I must have a copy archived somewhere though, I will have a dig and post it if/when I manage to find it.

However, I think there's a new way to push these things though. Something called an e-petition (I heard about it on the news today - they are going to debate bringing back the death penalty in Parliament because they got over 100,000 signatures). Could we get 100,000 people to sign up and get this debated, and possibly have a law passed?

Re: risks...

Problem is that most animals are attracted to anti freeze and will lick/taste it, I sometimes worry that people who don't own pets or don't know of the dangers of the stuff will store it incorrectly (its happened to people when they've drunk something stored in pop bottles for example) and so animals are exposed.

I agree something should be done about the antifreeze itself to make it repel animals.. the problem is what, as it may affect the product and so manufacturers won't do it.

I was told about him poisoning cats many months after I'd lost Beckett, if it had been sooner I would have done something about it, but by then my anger had subsided somewhat. Knowing he and his family were on the streets for a short while after losing their house before finding rented accomodation, while not my revenge of choice was still welcome news.
