As I said in my first post I have no intention of ever de-clawing them. It won't happen. Ever. I am just trying to educate him. He doesn't seem to get it. I love my cats too much and do think it's barbaric and cruel. I believe it is mutilating a cat. I just need something to show him so the light bulb goes on over his head. If it doesn't then (a) we won't move in together and (b) he might be out of the picture. If I show what Big Cat posted and he doesn't get what happens then he is too stupid to live, let alone date.

edited to add: Besides I signed contracts on top of all this swearing I would never get them de-clawed when I adopted Sunday. If I was stupid enough to then get them de-clawed and somehow the shelters found out the adoption might be invalid. I wouldn't risk that.

Re: Me Vs. My boyfriend about De-clawing

Perhaps you could take him to a vet who would let him watch a cat being de-clawed. If that didn't do it I don't know what would! Best of luck.

You really are to be commended, you're obviously the very best kind of cat owner. They asked you to sign that contract at the shelter for a reason, would your BF prefer they confiscated your cats??? Which, if you were to go ahead and declaw in spite of the contract, they would have every legal right to do! (Not suggesting you would do it, just illustrating the point).

If he's trying to muscle/bully you over your pets, maybe it's worth asking yourself if this might be the thin end of the wedge. Who knows what the next thing he might demand might be?

Re: Me Vs. My boyfriend about De-clawing

I agree with you-it is very unnatural to de-claw a cat. I do have to argue that my cat is not de-clawed and has ruined our leather furnature. Anyway, I won't get him de-clawed.

P.S. My border collie's name is Nick

Re: Me Vs. My boyfriend about De-clawing

Having a cat means having to deal with claw marks on the furniture. You can give them scratching posts but we all know that some cats like to claw things they shouldn't. It would be like getting a Persian cat and expecting not to have to deal with shedding hair and furballs. It's just part of the package deal. If you don't want the risk of clawing, get a goldfish! lol

Re: Me Vs. My boyfriend about De-clawing

Declawing is actually an amputaion of the enitre tip of the toe, it can be a very painful recovery for the cat (which the cat would try and mask any signs of pain) and can be physically and mentally damaging. I'd tell your boyfriend to get his toes and fingertips removed, walk on his feet without any walking aids and see how he likes it!

Hope you get through to him and everything works out well in the end for you and the cats!
