Tender Oscar

Cats, even kittens, are so good at sensing when all is not well and do their best to calm and sooth the human spirit.

My old childhood cat was always licking tears away when I cried, but I always thought it was because he was older and wiser.

Anyway, this week has been pretty tough with my husband admitted in hospital (again!) and I was really stressed and upset on Monday. I was absentmindedly stroking Oscar, but staring into the distance when he suddenly got onto his hind legs and put one paw on either side of my face and looked straight at me. The gesture was really tender, and instantly snapped me out of being sad.

I put this down to a fluke, but yesterday, I was sitting on the floor upset, and he ran to me from the cat tree and he did the same thing and put his nose to mine.

What is it about cats knowing these things and basically saying "Listen, all will be OK, I will make you feel better"

No wonder they put cats into care home for the residents to stroke. It is very theraputic and reassuring.... when they are behaving themselves

I'll remind you of that comment when they're running up and down your brand new curtains or knocking over everything on the worktops.....

Hope you're having a better day today babes..... Big ((((hugs)))) to you and I hope the OH gets well really soon. He can have a (hug) too but not one as big as yours.

Re: Tender Oscar

My cat Monty is very sensitive like that. When I'm feeling particularly stressed or fuming, he'll appear and jump onto my lap and settle down. He's not much of a lap cat, he's far more interested in being the cock of the walk, yet he chooses the most fraught times to seek out my lap and he stays there, even though I give him no encouragement. I take it as a very deliberate communication with me and it really helps me to feel better.

I have noticed this kind of intuition before with other cats now passed, and it's one of the most wonderful things about sharing your life with other creatures. Dogs can be really good at this too.

Re: Tender Oscar

I should perhaps point out that whilst Wilbur is very affectionate, he continued to sleep through all this, but maybe he thought he could, as his Bro was dealing with the distressed female....

Re: Tender Oscar

First of all (((big Hugs))) for you

I agree that they can feel your emotions. Me and OH had a falling out, and poor Molly didn't know which way to turn. She didn't like we were arguing, and really didn't know which one of us to turn to! She went very quiet, something Molly doesn't like to do and we both got cuddles and kisses, as if to say 'I really dont like this, please make up'
