Guilty!!!!!!
Right here goes,
I am the proud mum of three gorgeous cats, Pepsi who is 5yrs old, Daisy 2yrs old and our newest addition is Lucy 7mths old. Up until now i have always classed myself as a responsible cat owner, but not anymore ![]() The problem is i have gone and allowed Lucy to get herself pregnant, not on purpose of course, but i am feeling the guilt none the less. I know i should have had her spayed before now. I had pepsi neutered when he was 6mths old and Daisy was roughly the same age. Many people may ask the question "well why didn't you do the same with Lucy". And i really was intending to get her seen to soon but before i knew it she was in heat and trying her best to sneak out any open space visible. And unfortunately she suceeded. My question is "what in the name of god am i gonna do ". I know i have done wrong and i really could kick myself. I have read various other responses to the same question but most replies seem to be no help whatsoever and sometimes can be very viscious. As i said before i know i am in the wrong but i really need your help. Dawn x |

Re: Guilty!!!!!!
Dependant on how far gone she is, as far as I'm aware you can still get her spayed.
Probably your best bet to avoid a situation you'd rather not be in!

Re: Guilty!!!!!!
I know you realise that Lucy should have been spayed sooner but if she is not very far into the pregnancy she can still be spayed now. It really is the best option - 7 months she is still a baby herself
Not saying she couldn't cope with having kittens but there are more likely to be problems if she does ![]()

Re: Guilty!!!!!!
Go to your vet tomorrow and ask their opinion. Nipples start to enlarge by about 3 weeks, it may not be too late

Re: Guilty!!!!!!
You really are not going to like the replies .How long ago was she mated. She is going to have a tough time having these kittens as she is still a kitten herself.Chances are she could have difficulties delivering these kittens, and even if she does give birth successfully could very well reject them leaving you to hand rear.My advice is to take her to your vet and ask if they will spay her even although she is pregnant. You should have taken her to be spayed as soon as she had escaped and then you would not be in this predicament.Sorry i cant be more positive.
Not sure that this will be of any real help but have added this link Do you think your cat is Pregnant? Or do you want her to get pregnant? Last edited by buffie; 02-08-2011 at 10:15 PM.. |

Re: Guilty!!!!!!
Well, I suppose I can't give you any different advice than others already have - go see your vet ASAP, and plan to have her spayed shortly. I will say a few other things though. First, thanks for being a responsible and observant owner, to notice she was showing signs and are prepared to deal with the consequences. I know it likely won't make you feel any better about it, but rest assured that the veterinarian has dealt with this exact issue (or worse) many, many times and will have no problem discussing the issue with you further. They will not judge you for it, and talking with the vet will give you more information on your options. Even if she is pregnant, it's likely that the advice will be to have her spayed anyway. Some veterinarians won't spay animals that are very close to term, but it varies.
