Kitten using the litter tray

Hi All,

I have a new kitten, Amber (some of you might have seen my pics i posted a few days ago).

Since we got her, on Friday she has used the litter tray perfectly- no messes yet!

However, i have noticed that whenever she uses it (number 1 or 2) she meows (cries?) the whole time, constantly. At first i thought she was constipated but she does go everytime and it doesn't take long, just a few re positioning moments!

I googled it and it said it could be because she is scared and having a poo (sorry) is painful as she is only used to soft poos from when she was really small. So it said to comfort her while she goes to relax her. I have been doing this each time i hear her crying but it hasn't helped yet!

She doesnt seem sad, as she bounds out of the tray and over to me for some fuss but i am a bit concerned.

We have her first vet appointment booked for this Friday so ill definitely mention it then, but wondered if any of you had any ideas in the meantime?

Thanks

Natalie

Re: Kitten using the litter tray

Does it sound like a painful meow or like a calling meow? Does she 'look' to be in pain when doing her stuff?

Maybe she is just letting you know that she is doing some 'business' and you need to come and clean up after her. I think some kittens do this to let the mommy cat know that they have 'been'. But I could be TOTALLY wrong on that one......

I'm sure the vet will let you know for sure when he sees her.

No she definitely does not look in pain when she is doing it. And it sounds more like her normal meow, just constantly one after another. I hope you're right that she is just letting me know!!

Thank you

Re: Kitten using the litter tray

My kitten amber use to do the same meow 2 weeks back before or after she uses litter to tell me when she had used it. Then I would praise her with good girl Amber.

After a few times of praising her she stopped meowing cause she got enough attention from me anyway.

Molly 'announces' everytime she has a poo!! She meows all the way to the litter tray, she meows whilst she is settling in, then meows to say she's finished Certainly isn't a painful meow, just a 'right I'm going for a poo, please do not disturb, when I've finished, clean it out please' meow

Sorry, perhaps this is a silly questions, but how do you dispose of the clumps after they poo and wee? In the bin with the normal household waste?

Re: Kitten using the litter tray

Paddy meows and races round the house, bouncing off the walls before he has a poo,

I scoop into a nappy sack and then into the wheelie bin.
