Re: Kitten using the litter tray

The wee ones don't seem to smell with the litter I use anyway (Oko's), so I just put those in the inside bin but the poos go straight in the wheelie bin. I get dog poo bags, they also are scented.

Re: Kitten using the litter tray

Also another silly question...how often does everyone completely empty the litter try, wash it and put fresh litter in?

A question on here is never silly

I think it really depends on the litter you use, but my personal experience is, I always clear the poo's and wee clumps out as soon as they are seen, topping up the litter when needed. Every 4 days I do a complete clean.

I have a new kitten, Amber (some of you might have seen my pics i posted a few days ago).

Since we got her, on Friday she has used the litter tray perfectly- no messes yet!

However, i have noticed that whenever she uses it (number 1 or 2) she meows (cries?) the whole time, constantly. At first i thought she was constipated but she does go everytime and it doesn't take long, just a few re positioning moments!

I googled it and it said it could be because she is scared and having a poo (sorry) is painful as she is only used to soft poos from when she was really small. So it said to comfort her while she goes to relax her. I have been doing this each time i hear her crying but it hasn't helped yet!

She doesnt seem sad, as she bounds out of the tray and over to me for some fuss but i am a bit concerned.

We have her first vet appointment booked for this Friday so ill definitely mention it then, but wondered if any of you had any ideas in the meantime?

Thanks

Natalie
Eric used to do this! He wasn't in any pain (after checking with the vet) but he used to scream and miaow! I videoed it once, my work mates still talk about it! He stopped doing it after about 4-5months old.

I use Oko Plus taking out any lumps and mess asap and topping up when I need to so the base litter can last up to a fortnight, no smell or anything.
