I really should have known better

As I have a neuro disorder which affects my back, but mainly my legs, it means I have problems (sever spasms) when sitting unless my legs are raised. I have a recliner but it's not the comfiest chair in the world, so I treated myself to a footstool to use with the sofa and it's luxury

None of my lot saw it till they came in last night, and no prizes for guessing what happened when I got up to make a drink, #1 cat, Bola, was straight on it while #3 cat, Max, sat on the sofa (in my place) waiting his turn to try it out. I can't see my getting much use out of it till they get fed up.

Oh, they'll come, but you know cats, they won't co-operate so I'll have to sneak up on them.

Ian, are you on any anti spasmodics? Have you tried acupuncture?

I am, Baclofen > up to 120mg daily and Zanaflex > 8mg daily, tho' at my neurologists suggestion this is about to change. He wants me to try lowering the Baclofen and increasing the Zanaflex. I'll need to see my GP to discuss things as while I tolerate a high dose of Baclofen well, the side effects of Zanaflex are a very different story.

I've had acupuncture, but to try and ease the muscle rigidity in my back, my legs are *too far gone* for it to have any chance of working on them. I was sceptical tbh, it worked tho' the overall effect was pretty short lived but I'm still feeling some benefit.

Botox was suggested at one point, but as every muscle is affected it was decided against as I'd probably end up looking like a dartboard, and on top of that it would mean too frequent a trip to hospital to have it done.

Re: I really should have known better

Right, right. I was on Baclofen and Dantrium - but this was many years ago. I hated the Baclofen as it made me incontinent.

I hope you get on ok with an increased dose of Zanaflex. Apparently it can cause hallucinations??? Is that right? Sounds pretty hardcore.

Re: I really should have known better

No halucinations here, but at such a low dose atm I wouldn't expect that, it's the upset stomch side effect I struggle with.

The idea was, as Zanaflex is short acting, to take 4mg in the morning when I'm most active, then 2mg late afternoon and the final 2mg last thing at night and it was the last dose that caused all the problems. Taken without a substantial amount of food meant I was barely able to go downstairs the following morning let alone out of the house without needing frequent trips to the bathroom. My neuro thinks it could be both meds *clashing*, I doubt that personally and I'm not looking forward to increasing the dose but I'm willing to give it a try.

Re: I really should have known better

Ian, good luck with your meds and good luck with getting your footstool back! Cats seem to know exactly what/where your favourite place to relax is and head straight for it the moment you get up or the moment you want to sit down. Sneaking dounds like the way forward

Thanks

As it's been so sunny and warm today I've had the footstool to myself as my lot have been too busy catching some rays outside, tho' this may change as it gets later in the day.
