Re: Tortie cats - genetics question
The parents of my Gloworm are a red tabby mum and a black persian dad. He was the only kitten but there was a stillborn tortie girl, so you can have red tabbys and torties in the same litter.

![]() If the ginger Mum has female ginger babies and torties then I can only assume there might have been two different Dad's (not uncommon in strays.) x |

![]() Not sure what sex they are hence the questions. It's for my Mum who is getting a kitten not me and she wanted a Tortie but ideally would like a girl, i didnt realise about the genetics til someone else mentioned it to me before, this is really helpful. Thanks ![]()

Re: Tortie cats - genetics question
Having read this i gather they should be
Its a moggy litter so the owner hasn't sexed them yet, they are only a few days old.She has an old boy (who looks like a British Blue) He has been neutered but has been an only cat most of his life apart from a neighbours cat who sneaks in for some dinner top ups so Mum was thinking he may be happier with a girl in the house than another male (not sure how happy he will be with either tbh ) My kids have wanted a cat for ages but we cant have one because of the dog so my sneaky Mum has told my Dad she is having it for my kids but it has to live with her so he couldn't say no (he has been well and truly done up like a kipper) All being well she should get "squidge" in about 10 weeks ![]()

Hmmm, Kenzie's a mental wee thing too, I wonder what the common denominator is.... ![]() But seriously, she's an incredible cat but I wouldn't call her normal! As a kitten she was a real handful - VERY accident-prone in her first year. Very feisty and into absolutely everything. She's 6 now so has thankfully calmed down a lot! She's not good with strangers, but once she knows someone she's incredibly affectionate. She always has to be where her people are and is a bit dog-like (I know someone else said that too). She's definitely one of a kind and not your regular cat! And she helped me through an incredibly tough year or so at one point, I don't know what I would have done without her. It broke my heart to leave her at home when I came over her, you've no idea how many tears I have shed for her! But 4 months and I'll be home with her again FOREVER ![]() |

Re: Tortie cats - genetics question
interesting little factoid about the tortie
if you clone her the kitten will be black *or* ginger - not tortie (with or without white) as the adult cells are one or t'other not both my genetics class at college was a laugh |
