Cat enclosures/cat runs
Please can anyone advise me.
I have 7 cats, and am arranging to have a run built for them attached to my house--access via a cat flap. I have spent ages googling for ideas etc,and now think i have a design in mind. My main concern is SPACE.All 7 cats are moggies, ranging from 16 years, right down to a 1 1/2 year old.I am looking at an area possibly 20'x18' (possibly 20')x7'.Do you think that is enough room to happily contain this many cats? I was researching and some authorites indicate there should be at least 30 cu ft of space for each cat, others say at least 10 sq feet of floor space per cat,and finally the floor area per cat must be at least 2 square metres, with a min.height of 2 square metres. I am totally baffled...and URGENTLY need someones advise. They are all used to being outdoors,as we are totally surrounded by forest, but we are relocating back to England, and i cannot give them this freedom. They have no road sense whatsoever, and on reading the various horrors of life now in England,on this site, there is no way i would want them to roam---I love them all far too much, and could not live with myself if they were harmed in anyway. Please, any advice as to size would be appreciated very much. Thank you everyone. |

Re: Cat enclosures/cat runs
I have 12ft x 12ft x 6ft tall run for the cats - so your run sounds luxurious to me - it's unlikely that all the cats will all want it all the time - just make sure there's a few outdoor cat trees so they have room to get on different levels.
If they all get on in the house then more room can only be a good thing! |

Re: Cat enclosures/cat runs
Hi
Thanks for replies so far.I DID think about cat proofing the garden, but unfortnately one of my little ones,Poppy, now just 4 years old,is an escape artist.I read all about this system, and about how cats cannot escape from it--but i know her too well--she is so agile--climbing upside down is a favourite pastime. The ones on "rollers",i can see her easily sussing that one out!! So,if it wasnīt for Poppy--the little dare devil--i would go for that option. But i darenīt risk it--theres never been another cat like her---Believe me.I worked for cat rescue in England for many years, and do similiar work here, and i have never known such a fearless little devil!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
