Re: My cat's probably got heart disease and she's not eating.

Just spoken to the vet. Am picking up some appetite stimulant tablets for her later and booking her for the blood test tomorrow.
I told the vet I can't afford a heart scan and he said to wait and see what this other blood test says and we can take it from there.

Re: My cat's probably got heart disease and she's not eating.

i had a cat with a heart murmur and this doesn't sound like heart disease, unless she is beginning to collect fluid in the area around her heart due to poor circulation. there are heart tablets they can take which are not expensive and can help them out long term.

try very strong smelling foods, like sardines, to encourage her to eat, i would have thought he might have given her a steroid injection to boost her appetite.

Re: My cat's probably got heart disease and she's not eating.

He said he didn't want to give the steroid in case it was her kidneys that were up the shoot. I collected a tablet for her last night to boost her appetite, however she was actually asking for food this morning, and has eaten another plate of tune today.
Now all the cats want tuna lol
I'm much happier that she is eating of her own accord, and I'm starting to doubt the vets opinion now.
She has another blood test on Thursday.

Re: My cat's probably got heart disease and she's not eating.

I'm really glad to hear she's eating on her own! However I would try and wean her back onto her normal food as soon as you can. I thought she already had a bloodtest which would have tested kidney function as routine panels do. Also a urine sample?

I'm not necessarily doubting your vets suspicions but in your position I would ask him what his reasons are based on, aside from the heart murmur that is. It's just not clear to me from the information here. After all she may well have an early stage heart disease which is treatable with medication.

Re: My cat's probably got heart disease and she's not eating.

Well he examined her and took temp then took blood and urine and as her temp was up gave her an antibiotic jab. Then later phoned me to say the blood pointed towards heart or kidney disease but the urine didn't show any sign of kidney malfunction so he thought it was probably heart and she'd need a further blood test that he'd send away and that would probably confirm heart disease and if it did then she should have a heart scan. But I can't afford the scan. But I booked her in for the other blood test on Thurs and the results take 7 days. I'm working as much overtime as I can in the meantime.
