Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
So I now have my 2 boys home with me. One is crazy and so confident. The other is very shy and scared, he cowers when I go to stroke him. I have slept downstairs with them for the past 2 nights and he has come for a cuddle but then gone back on the sofa. I have been feeding them the same food as they were eating before I collected them. They are both from different litters so different foods (possible they have been eating each others when I havent been looking?) Yesterday the timid one started to have sloppy poos about 5-6 times yesterday. Then last night he was sick 3 times within an hour (looked liked he was bringing up the food) and then this morning he had 1 very runny poo but he hasnt been for a couple of hours now. He is a little quiet but he is still playing with the other kitten and running around like a herd of elephants. Ive given him some water and fed the other kitten seperately. Its Sunday so I cant take him to the vets. But does anyone have any advise? Possibly do you think its the change of coming here and being frightened? Someone told me to go get gim chicken stock from the shop and feed him that today.
He is 8 weeks old - owner oringinally told me he was 10 weeks. Was going to leave him with his mum but the owner has sold all his other siblings and keeps the mother out of the house so he was on his own all the time ![]() the other kitten is fine and pooing normally - although he did have fleas so I had to Frontline spray them with gloves yesterday and they have gone. |

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
thank you - he is jumping around now. I have just had to seperate the 2 kittens too as when the black one was playing he was making the grey one grey being too rough and then growling from the grey one! Is this normal when they play too rough?

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
Please don't give him any kind of shop bought chicken stock, the cubes etc will all be far too salty and the 'fresh' ones include ingredients such as onions which are not good for a cat.
As chinablue says, you can boil up some chicken or white fish and feed that with the resulting broth for fluid. I would be taking him to a vet tomorrow as a matter of some urgency....and would keep a very careful eye on him today just in case he needs to go in out of hours. |

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
If this is the kitten from the other thread then it sounds like he has been unwell for at least 4 days and should certainly have seen a vet by now.
Do you know if he has been wormed at all? I would certainly try him on boiled chicken to see if the bland food settles his stomach but please try to at least speak to a vet today. |

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
I don't know where you got your kittens from but sadly you are learning the hard way that some people truly do not care at all about their cat's kittens at all and get their cats to have kittens for a quick profit alone. This kitten should never have been sold whilst he was still ill.
I would take both kittens to the Vets ASAP, (emergency ones can be contacted even on Sunday) as even the second kitten should not have been sold on with fleas and you have no idea if he really is healthy. Kittens deteriorate so quickly that something could already be going on inside before the physical effects show up. You have said on another thread that the sick kitten has been ill for days. How can this be allowed to be continued without any veterinary advice or a check up? You cannot continue to speculate that it could be down to food/change of diet/stress - he needs to be checked out. They need to be flea treated, wormed and vaccinated at the very least. Secondly as both kittens are from different litters you should keep them separate anyway as if one is sick he could be passing on the illness to the second kitten. I am assuming you have seen no record of a a healthy mother for either kitten, which means either could have any disease. Please Gemma call a vet and get the kittens health checked today, even if it is expensive. Seriously kittens really do go downhill fast and now he is being sick as well. It is not good and if you care for your kitten you need to ensure he is OK today and not wait another 24hrs. x |

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
As Lumboo said, they both need to see a vet and the unwell one needs to see a vet ASAP. I would also separate them as they could have anything as the people you got them from obvipusly dont care about their animals health.
Before using any flea products you should have checked their weights as some products cannot be used until a kitten reasches a certain weight. They do need regular flea ans worming treatments though but ask your vet, the ones you can buy in the supermarket or pet shops are not very good (there are a couple of good wormers you can buy over the counyer but not flea products)

I did weigh them and used the spray as directed. I got it from the vets under their advise. They have both been wormed. One is due for the next lot tomorrow and the other in a week. Going to the shop to buy him some chicken and then will boil some water, let it cool and pour over. Will also ring the vets for advise

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
Best thing to do is boil the chicken in the water, let that cool, and then serve....the broth will be tastier than plain water and boiling meat makes it easier to digest than roasting/grilling. Even if the kitten only drinks the broth it will provide important electrolytes which protect against the effects of dehydration.

Re: Kitten is home - not very well - advice please :(
Vet says that if he's still playing around then he should be okay but to keep checking his skin for dehydration and then if still runs tomorrow to bring him in. Ive just checked the litter tray and its still coming out. No more sickness though. Im wondering if its worms
