My cat is a mum again?

Not biological, she is neutered. However she has just ran through the back door, upstairs with something in her mouth. I assumed a mouse, so I ran upstairs to get it, only to find a kitten. Between 1-7 days old I'm assuming. She did this three times and I now have slinky and three kittens on my bedroom.

What on EARTH?!?! I'm gobsmacked, just can't speak. I'm hoping I'll wake in the morning to find it's a nightmare.

Meanwhile, slinky is letting them suckle her but I'm assuming her milk has dried up so I'm syringe feeding these with the remainder of cat milk I have. Until my brain can process what has happened, do I contact a cat rescue centre?

Re: My cat is a mum again?

Probably some mum cat outside looking for them, poor mum cat!

If she isn't able to feed them herself I would definitely contact a rescue centre as they might have some mothers they could put them with. Is it cat milk you have or kitten replacement milk?

Re: My cat is a mum again?

I have no idea what to suggest but somewhere there may be a mother cat looking for her kittens. All I can think of is you need to try to find her.I know its dark but your cat must have found them fairly close to home.

Re: My cat is a mum again?

Kitten replacement milk, I had to hand feed one of her kits so I kept the rest of the unopened packet.

I'll ring them in the morning, I feel awful now :-( some poor confused cat looking for her kittens that my cat has abducted

See if you can find her at all, as the kittens will have a better chance if you can find her.

There's nothing more fierce than a mother guarding her babies...I suspect if your cat has brought these kittens home, then all is not well with their mum and yours might well have saved their tiny lives....I do hope you find out more soon and you do seem admirably calm about such a stange occurance!!

Mum may have been off doing something, they do leave their babies. There may be something wrong but theres no reason to write it off without having a little look around.
