Stressful week..hopefully happy ending !

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know about my unsettling week and hoping that i have made the right decisions.

Its a long one, so apologies if it turns into a ramble

As you alot of you know, i have had Honey for nearly a year now
When i first wanted to get a kitten, i was not a forum member, but being what i like to think a responsible person, i did alot of research on the internet, and contacted my local vets for advice.

One of my work colleagues next door neighbours cat Bluebell had a litter of two kittens, one tabby and a black and white semi-longhaired.

My colleague told me that her neighbour did not want payment for the kittens, just a good home.

When i went to see them i fell in love with the tabby kitten, i asked lots of questions and was dismayed to learn that this was Bluebells 2nd litter (she was 2) and she had no immediate plans to get her spayed

She also had never vaccinated, flead or wormed on a regular basis even though bluebell went outside

Her children were also young and not old enough to be playing with the kittens and i didnt like how she never seemed to monitor their rough play with them.

Honey was then 6/12 wks old...i told her i wanted the tabby kitten but wouldnt take her until at least 8 wks as i had learnt from vets and internet that this was an ok age for them to leave their mum ( i know alot different now !!)

Luckily she agreed to keep her until then even though she had others interested in the kittens.

The rest is history...My gorgeous Honey came to live with us and melted all our hearts, most suprisingly OHs.

In hindsight now i wish i had taken Rosie, Honeys sibling, because i later went on to bring Indy home as i wanted Honey to have company. However at the time i had never owned a kitten and wanted to start with one.

My work colleague often kept me updated on her neighbour, she never had Bluebell spayed and Rosie was outside at 4 mths and has not been spayed either

So here i arrive at the point of my story....

Bluebell , Honeys mother fell pregnant again around 16 wks ago....that bloody woman didnt even realise she was, until she was about to drop !!!!
Bluebell had a litter of three kittens...two tabby girls and a black and white boy, most probably from the same tom as bluebell doesnt really venture far from the garden and the tom is always with her. Also my colleague has said that she has briefly seen the kittens and they look identical to Honey and Rosie.

What disgusts me even more is that my colleague has found out that Rosie is possibly is pregnant at 11mths !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What did the woman bloody expect...she isnt spayed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What pushed me over the edge is when i went into work on Monday and i was told by my colleague that she again is trying to rehome the kittens at 6 wks, Bluebell is regularly locked outside whilst the kittens are inside. Again she wants no payment for them but is too bloody lazy to try and find them good homes when they are old enough and is hoping word of mouth will find them homes. The last straw is that my colleague has told me this week that the kittens made a mess in the house, whilst the stupid woman was out for the day (one litter tray was left for them !!) so for the last few nights the kittens have been shut outside.

I got really upset in work and told my colleague that i had to get the kittens from her !!

I cannot take them myself, however much i want to ...and i know they should not be taken away from bluebell at this age but they are being separated from her regardless and anything could happen to them ouside at night.

I am suprised that have not been attacked yet by a fox etc .

I have tried to find people who have alot of experience with owning kittens/cats but i have had no luck. I have been worried sick about them all week and worried that if she didnt lose them first in a horrible way, she may find unsuitable homes for them at a stupidly young age

So today i have rang a local rescue called Hollyhedge, who a friend of mine had two rescue kittens from 6 yrs ago and who ironically turned me down on my request to have a rescue cat because i planned to keep them as indoor pets ( but i will not hold that against them )

They were horrified about the situation and told me they have space there to look after the kittens.

I have rang the woman today to say that my friend wants all three kittens ( a big fat lie) and we will not pay anything for them !!...she has agreed to let me take them on sunday. I will then be driving them straight to the rescue center , where they will be safe and well cared for until they can find them, their forever homes. The lady at the center basically wanted me to try and get Bluebell and Rosie as well, which is a little bit risky but she does accept that the kittens are in alot of danger in the situation they are in and that we have no choice to take them because the owner has allowed us to.

This bloody owner has now told my colleague that she is going to get Bluebell spayed and i hope to god Rosie is not pregnant...i am working on taking her too but have to tread carefully as i do not want push it and lose the info i am getting through work !!

If she is already pregnant , i will offer to take her as well then hopefully i could pay to get her spayed, so she wouldnt have to go through with the pregnancy and then take her to the center

At the moment i feel i am doing all i can...and by sunday those 6 wk old kittens will be safe....hope i am doing the right thing

Thanks for listening

Thank God someone (i.e. YOU) are looking out for their welfare. My heart bleeds for the mum and Rosie - I hope the stupid woman does get Bluebell spayed and Rosie.

Well done you for caring and for actually doing something.

Well done for stepping in and making sure that these poor kittens are safe .How can some people be so heartless,to put the lives of tiny kittens at risk

Re: Stressful week..hopefully happy ending !

Thanks for your replies everyone, i know i am doing the right thing in regards to the kittens...just feel bad about making them leave their mum

I know that is my only option though...i will constantly keep asking my colleague at work about Rosie and Bluebell and if i get the nod from the stupid woman i will take them both as well.

Think i am going to be falling in love with 3 little bundles of fluff on sunday...hoping they are ok until i get there.

I am going to blub taking them to the center...i get attached very quickly

You are being those kittens fairy godmother, making sure they are ok! I just hope to god that evil woman gets them spayed! Have you considered calling RSPCA for them to visit her?

Thanks Missye87...i have spoke to the lady at the shelter, who said because i am taking the kittens out of the equation...the fact that she is feeding and not treating the other cats in a cruel way (that all depends what you consider not cruel!!) the rspca will have no power.

I know its not ethical but center want to swing by and lift the other two cats and catnap them so that may very well happen.
