Porridges kittens
A posted on the cat breeding forum 9 days ago when my cat Porridge had her kittens.
Just a quick update to say that they are all doing very well. I've never had a cat who has kittens before and can't believe how quickly they grow. And Porridge is being a great Mum. I have attached a photo of them. The two white ones seem to be developing points - their ears are turning grey and their tails are a very light grey. I think they have the potential for being 2 beautiful cats (but aren't they all)! The white one with the black mark (I call it Splodge) has just started to open it's eyes today. It's markings are almost identical to the local Tom cat. So all good in the Porridge camp!! ![]() |

Re: Porridges kittens
Picture of Porridge attached. Grey and white shorthaired moggie. I have no idea of her history as she was found when she was about 3 weeks old. And Dad of the white and black cat is a local feral cat, so again do not know it's background. But up the road from us are feral siamese cats (I live in the French Alps and there are quite a lot of feral cats around us), whether any of them are a Dad to the kittens as well, I have no idea!
I've tried to look at all the genetics with the pointing gene, but to be honest, find it all a little bit confusing! In the picture, Porridge is resting on our siamese cat. Again, we found him at about 3 weeks old - he was just up the road - and we do not know anything about his background. He had been neutered so couldn't be the Dad. He sadly died suddenly about 6 weeks ago - only 10 months old. |

Re: Porridges kittens
Basically pointed is recessive, so your kittens would have to get 2 copies to be a pointed cat.
Therefore both mum and dad would have to 'carry' the pointed gene (alongside another gene) in order to pass a copy each onto the kittens (to give them 2 copies to 'show' the pointing in their coats) if the dad was one of the feral pointeds then it is more likely, but mum would still have to carry it also) Its not impossible, but they might just be grey and white like mummy rather than 'pointed' there may also be multiple fathers ![]()

Re: Porridges kittens
Colours and patterns do change and become clearer
Benji is a blue silver tabby but his blue looked more like a shaded across his body when he was younger, but the stripes are becoming clearer ![]()
