Last question, honest! Toilet Training

Something I came across whilst purchasing all the 'essentials' (okay so they weren't all strictly essential, but what my husband doesn't know, won't hurt him ) was a toilet training kit.

A friend who has orientals is giving it a go and I must say it has intrigued me.

Has anyone used it? I am really, really tempted... we have a downstairs loo that I don't use (spiders love it *shudder* ) so it could be the kitty loo. The idea really appeals to me and my mouse is hovering over the 'add to basket' button!

(Sorry for spamming the forum! I'll be good, promise )

Re: Last question, honest! Toilet Training

There are a few around - I'm using the Litter Kwitter but also heard of the Citi Kitty and a few others. And there are a lot of DIY methods out there too.

It's not quite as easy as it looks on the box. I'd suggest you read the LK forums and perhaps look at a DIY method before purchasing.

If you are at home a lot then that makes it a lot easier but it also depends a lot on the cat. Good luck!

About your title - its always good to ask questions, remember we only learn from asking, nono-one knows everything.

Re: Last question, honest! Toilet Training

Thank you, had a look at the DIY option but I don't think it will work for us at this time, however I have bookmarked it anyway
I have just purrrrchased (bad joke, I know!) the Litter Kwitter... thought it worth a go. The cats are relatively young and curious so fingers crossed, and even if they don't like it, nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that I suppose

I am so ready for these cats to come home now, they are going to be so spoilt and loved

Re: Last question, honest! Toilet Training

Hi FloydnFLoss,
I am getting 2 kittens in a couple of weeks, and like you I came across the Litter Kwitter when stocking up on cat bits n bobs.
This prompted me to research toilet training cats on the net, I found a fair few YouTube videos, a Yahoo cat toilet training group and also Doogies Litter Kwitter Forums.
I've decided to go for a DIY method after all the reading.
It seems a common theme in all the reading I've done on this subject, that time is of the essence.....as in take lots of time, go slowly, very slowly......this seems to reduce failures and 'back-stepping'.
I'm prepared for it to be a long-haul, if at all succesful! I'm planning on keeping a diary of some sort with pics, videos etc at each stage.
Wishing you the best of luck if you go ahead, and it would be great if you could keep us posted as to how its working out

Re: Last question, honest! Toilet Training

It does require a lot of time and patience, and often some creative thinking, but the long term benefits are (at least in my house) worth it. I think it has stressed my husband out perhaps a bit too much, but if you read up first you should be well prepared.

My poor Blooregard has been given the nickname Peebag by my husband I was too lazy to keep a diary but I've got a thread on the LK forum, which is pretty rubbish compared to the super stars over there. Will look forward to hearing about you two

Re: Last question, honest! Toilet Training

I will go and take a look, thank you!

I don't think I would attempt it if I worked or if we didn't have 2 toilets, but I think, like you said, the benefits in the long term make it worth the effort
