Exclamation trip to the vets today

Hi all,

Took the little ones to the vets for injections today and a check up, one of them has a heart mumor!!
The vet said not to worry as its a kitten mumour and by the time he is 5/6 months old it should be all healed up!! Just the worry in the back of my mind will be there until I know for sure!!

Other than that we got a perfect bill of health for both kittens!!!

Thanks

Try not to worry.
Like the vet said they tend to heal up as they get older.
We have a British with one and it did upset me at first. He is 3 and he still has his but i have learn't on here that there are many cats with them and they live long and healthy lives.

Re: trip to the vets today

They suspect that my little boy has a very mild one but haven't been able to audibly confirm. We were advised to watch out for any warning signs like open mouthed panting, exhaustion after playing etc or basically anything that indicates his heart is struggling, but that most likely it would never be a problem. I have a mild one and it's never bothered me

My previous cat lived until he was 10 and the condition was only picked up a few weeks before he died, so yes they can live a long life.

The vet said Sparky had one when we went for their 2nd injections and I was concerned too, but I think it's quite common and they tend to 'grow out of it'.

Re: trip to the vets today

I have Gypsy with a heart murmur - will have it all her life - was 90% certain it was a fairly standard 'juvie' murmur that was made worse cos she had kittens at 6 months ish - she's perfectly active and healthy now at about 2

Indy had a heart murmur as a kitten, was gone by the time he was neutered at 5 months, came back briefly with the stress of the housefire but gone again

all it is is a slightly irregular heartbeat and unless severe has no impact on their daily life - regardless of whether it stays or goes. The only impact if it stays is being extra diligent to control weight.
