Cats dont burry their "business"

Hi all,

Hope youre all well.

Im hoping someone can help.

Neither of our Cats burry their "business" in the litter tray... the appear to attempt to, but rather than scraping the litter, they scrape the side of the litter tray repeatedly so I dont think its necesserely a dominance thing.

We've tried everything from changing litters, to showing them how to cover it, etc but still nothing and we are frequently changing the litter.

Any ideas??

Thanks
Grangey

Does it matter if they don't, one of mine doesn't at times but I try to pick it as soon as they do it.

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

My boy has always been a little lazy about burying...the only issue is that then it does smell more...but I'm not sure what can be done I have sometimes seen his sister go in after him to help clear up but she has stopped of late

Dorrie has never buried her doings. The other 3 are brill at it. It doesn't really matter. IT just sounds like Dorrie is digging her way to China when she goes lol

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Wilbur hardly ever buries his stuff - he just does it and struts off.

If Oscar sneaks into the tray before I have cleaned up after Wilbur he will bury Wilbur's things up first and then do his own stuff. I am sure I can hear him muttering about litter tray etiquette under his purr.

They have been doing this since we first got them though and I think they enjoy the ritual. Should have called them Eric and Ernie.

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Meeko rarely bothers to bury his if I'm around at the time cos he knows I'll be along to pick it up as soon as it leaves the cat .Even when I'm not he doesnt go mad with the burying thing, which,to be honest suits me just fine as it is much easier to pick up when you dont need to go on a treasure hunt to find it

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Mine is the same. She has never buried her doings, but she scratches the hell out of the side of the litter tray, or the adjacent wall. It used to make a massive amount of noise (wooden floors) until I put a mat and some sticky pads underneath the tray to deaden the noise.

Mine make a feeble attempt to but rarely actually cover it.

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

i found that my solo used to cover his every now and then lol but i did notice that if we couldnt get the litter he was used to and got a different one he wouldnt cover it up so i think maybe sticking to one brand of litter for a while so he gets used to it might help its worth a go as i think they get comfy with certain types of litter and are defo fussy when it comes to litter good luck .........
