snap lilly does the walls and the bath panel, she also digs in the other tray as well, sometimes she gets too enthuastic and they shoot out of the tray, (covered in sawdust so its not too bad) i tend to shout "lilly thats enough" and she legs it out of the bathroom

Also ditto. At least 2 of my 3 do the whole "side of the tray" scratch and fail to busy. Leo, sweet heart, is the only one who does it right. I am hoping that the Litter Kwitter will help in the future...

And the same at Moggy Towers!!!

The boys are not too bad at covering up but Abby is 50/50. Sometimes it gets buried so deep I need a shovel to get to it. Others, it's just sitting on the top in all its brown, smelly glory.....
GreyHare, TatiLie and welshjet like this.

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

I used to have mixed success when we used a litter tray - Freckle would go as soon as he jumped in and then spend whatever time needed to ensure it was covered. Bloo would dig a big hole (to the bottom of the tray) and then go, with a cursory swipe or two over it when he was finished. Freckle was pretty good about going and covering it some more as soon as Bloo was finished .

I'd read that a cat not covering it's business is a show of dominance?

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Ari was driving me crazy with this issue too. I did a number of things that made an improvement in the air quality here at home. I don't know what was the most important but I believe that every thing worked together to make it happen.

• treats and compliments when she had covered it (although she started to go to the tray and just move litter around in the hope of getting a treat) - made her know that she could do it and it was good.
• roomier and ventilated tray, so she could feel comfortable playing and digging - after that she started to cover it half of the times.
• improvement on the poo quality (she wasn't covering when it was soft and smelly. Probably to motivate me to get something done about it... or just because it was too disgusting to motivate her to stay longer in the tray) - made her cover nearly every time.

Nowadays, she just 'forgets' once in a while (today, for example. The Machiavellic kitty watched me choke on the fumes as an attempt to make me open the windows and let her out to the balcony).

I remember once watching Ari have the procedure done... She dug really deep, and then she put her back legs inside the hole and placed the art piece on the top of the hill. Then the whole thing rolled down and the rest of the litter rolled over it. When she moved her paws out, it finished to cover on the other side. It seemed a quite good technique and I was really impressed. Probably that's the same technique Abby uses. And it's not her fault that gravity doesn't alway work as planned, right?

Unfortunately not.......

I think Abby is just TOO busy having fun and doesn't have time to waste messing about in the litter tray. She literally jumps in, has a very quick scuffle, does what she has to do (wet or dry) and then jumps straight back out again when she is done.

Occasionally, she will make an effort to cover up or have a scratch on the sides of the tray but most of the time it's an 'in-out' job.

Maybe she'll improve when she gets a bit older........

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Our two cover theirs so well we often can't find it. I'd prefer it if they left them neatly on the surface to be honest as it would save me digging to Australia every time I try to find the poos! So I wouldn't worry about it personally!

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

My youngest female does this. i don't think one can really do much about it except just cover it yourself or pick it out as soon as she is done.

Re: Cats dont burry their "business"

Same applies here though it does make removal easier! However noticed in ( thankfully our! ) garden some, though not all do so! Interesting.

Read somewhere it can be about dominance in multi-cat households ie the dominant cat/s won't cover.
