Porta 21

Hi all

I was wondering whether anyone knew of anywhere other than zooplus that sold Porta 21.

It's quite high up on the non-prescription list on Tanya's CRF website for low phos. I'd quite like to try Oscar on it but don't really want to buy it in the quantity that you have to on ZP.

If anyone can suggest any other foods to try him on (he won't touch renal food ) I welcome any suggestions. He's eating so well at the moment and I want to keep his interest going

Re: Porta 21

Unfortunately, over here your only source of Porta 21 is zooplus. I am intrigued though, do you mean the wet or the dry food re the low phosphorus content?

Hi Hobbs

It's the wet food. Accordingly to the data table on Tanya's website the phos content for the Pure Chicken Tin and Pouch is 0.48%, and the chicken with rice sensitive or Aloe is 0.33%

Unfortunately Oscar will not touch renal food, so I am using the non-prescription table as a guide.

Re: Porta 21

I asked as there is some cheaper on the zooplus returns outlet but you still need to buy 10 x 400gm so maybe not any use :-(

Re: Porta 21

But don't forget that there currently is a question mark over the completeness of the Porta 21 food.

It has always been known that it contains too little fat and too little taurine, but the manufacturer is allegedly changing the declaration to complementary because there seem to be more vitamins and minerals lacking (certainly the added vitamins are a little low considering that the food itself only consists of fillets). The only food that is definitely complete is the Porta 21 Holisitic range.

Also, because the food contains only a 10th of the fat it should do to be a rounded food, it is a very protein heavy one, with about three quarters of the calories in the food coming protein.

Just making you aware so that you will not have a "from the frying pan into the fire moment" by inadvertently feeding him food that will not sustain him.

Thanks Hobbs. It's all a bit of a minefield! I did ask the question about completness over on the CRF Forum and it came back as a yes, think I will just carry on with what I'm doing

Re: Porta 21

Just had word back from the manufacturer regarding their wet Porta 21 and they confirm that it is now a complementary food and they are in the process of changing their labels etc.
