HELP!! Urgent advice required!!

Hi People

I am new to this forum so i would like to say a big hello to everyone!

I have two cats. One of them is fine and doesnt 'mess' anywhere in my house, however the other moggy has always been a bit dirty with her toilet habits. I have banned her from everyone room at night except the kitchen where she now sleeps as i thought this would stop her peeing in there because i have lino down, however she just pee's on the lino.

Does anyone have any tips/repellents i can use to stop her from peeing in the house. My boyf is getting really annoyed now as this has been going for over 4 years!

Any ideas would really be appreciated. I have already tried lemon juice and white pepper but she still does it!!

Many thanks

Worth getting her checked at the vets' if you haven't asked them about it, she could maybe have a urinary tract infection. Sometimes cats can associate the pain on weeing with being in a tray and it puts them off going in one. Other thing is is she neutered? An un neutered cat will pee around the place.
How does she get on with the other cat? If she is shy she might not feel comfortable sharing a tray, and perhaps another tray would help?

Re: HELP!! Urgent advice required!!

If she checks out OK at the vets. Then I would look at changing her toilet facilities. Add more trays, try a hooded if you have open or vice versa, change the open for a larger deeper tray, change the position of the trays - make sure they are private, change the litter - there is a litter called Cat Attract, it contains an additive that is supposed to make a cat want to pee there, I have heard good things about it.

Clean where she goes with a solution of biological washing powder. You can also buy solutions such as urine off, that take away the smell completely even on old spots.

It could be that even if she doesn't have a urinary tract infection now, she did at one point and as has already been said, they associate the pain of peeing with the tray and look for somewhere soft to go. If she has been doing this for 4 years then it has formed a habit, so you will have to go right back to basics to teach her to use her tray again. A large dog crate that you can put her in over night, with just enough room for a bed food, water and a tray may help. It focus her mind on where she is supposed to pee.

Re: HELP!! Urgent advice required!!

I have had her to the vets and she is fine. I dont really want to use another litter tray. She is out most of the day because I work however she seems to just wait until i get in on a night. She gets on very well with my other cat.

She was neutered soon after i got her from being a kitten. she's just a normal moggy who doesnt like going outside guess

Saikou, where can i get the "urine off" that you speak of please?

thanks :-)

Re: HELP!! Urgent advice required!!

I think you really need to go back to basics with her.

Do you have access to a puppy or kittening crate at all....just to borrow. When she is indoors, place her in the crate with just her bed, food and litter tray. She will not want to urinate on her bed or food so she will hopefully go in the litter tray. I am sure she will moan and cry at being shut away but if it has been going on for so long, you really need to start as though she were a kitten. This should help her relearn where to go and where not to go. It really should only take a couple of days at the most and if she is an outdoor cat anyway, I see no problems with having her confined for a few hours at a time. Once she starts using the litter tray, you can then start letting her out into the kitchen and see if the problem is sorted out or not.

I have done this a couple of times in the past and it has worked brilliantly.

Urine Off can be bought online from its own UK website, or these:
