Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

I bought my cats at a dodgy pet shop even though I had heard you should go through a breeder. The pet shop had so many cages full of kittens, I felt really bad for them all! But, chose Shaggy (grey and white) as he was sleeping in a litter tray and then Scrappy (black and white) as I had heard it's best to get one male and one female cat and she was miaowing so much at me. Figured in the end at least I was rescuing two kittens from a horrible pet shop.

Re: Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

Unfortunately all you've done is free up two slots for the pet shop to fill with another pair of sad kittens. It's not a 'rescue' when you perpetuate the problem.

Our first pair of cats were a mother and son from the RSPCA, in 1995. When we lost the 'kitten' at the beginning of this year, aged nearly sixteen, we went back to the RSPCA to repeat the process of adopting a mother cat and one of her kittens. Unfortunately things didn't go to plan, and the pregnant cat we had chosen ended up with no kittens, so she came home as a solo cat....... then two weeks later the same RSPCA foster home phoned to say they had a tiny abandoned tom kitten, and would we like to see if the young adult cat would accept him? We said we'd give it a fortnight's trial, and within four days they were eating out of the same bowl, and are now best buddies.

All rescues apart from Magik who followed me home from the pub one night. We did have her scanned for a chip, put posters up and called all the local rescue centres but no one claimed her and she has never left us..

Re: Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

All my 9 Cats were from SPCA. Rescued cats seem very loving and make good pets. The only cat who struggled to use a litterbox was my male ginger cat fred. Lynx took ages to use outside and never covered her litter so Amy helped .

Plus it is easier to find them there than finding breeders here and cheaper.

Pedigree is only for breeding or if you want a certain breed.

Re: Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

Q & M came from a farm 12 years ago, sadly Q passed away at the end of May
My husband brought Midnight & Moonspell home from a friend's neighbour who hadn't bothered to spay her poor cat, they were riddled with worms, fleas & earmites

I got Mikki 3 years ago my hubby fell in love with her when we saw her at 3 days old
I went to Chris after a lot of soul searching after losing my gorgeous blue point ragdoll to F.I.P i got him from an advert nin the paper i would NEVER do that again lesson learnt

I don't know if I did a bad thing but I got Biffy from Gumtree - on a 'free to a good home' basis but tbh, the guy didn't check our house or anything and lied about being up to date on his vaccines and didn't mention the whole biting problem...he said he was having to move back in with his parents and they were allergic. I don't totally know how true that is. I guess the positive could be it saved him having to go to a rescue centre?

Re: Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

Our two came from a rescue, we wanted to help out cats that were in need. It actually suited us anyway as we wanted grown up cats rather than kittens and also a pair who were brought up together. We ended up with 18 month old brothers who both have lovely natures and get on really well.

Re: Where did you get your cat/cats? And why did you choose them?

My first proper cat was a Ragdoll, she was ex-breeding queen that I got from a friend. She was an awesome cat but she kinda put me off long-haired cats.

ETA: proper as in the first cat I bought and owned once I moved out of my parents' house.

The kittens I'm going to be getting are from the family member of a friend. I first saw them when they were about 2 weeks old and I am going to view them again tomorrow. I'm going to see if two of them choose me, rather than me choosing them.
