Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

1 for each bedroom you have

here I got 4 bedrooms so got 3 cats 1 still getting again

There isn't really a set rule unless there is a law on how many cats for a flat

Also you need a room for each cat as a safe room for when you introduce them

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

I have 2 at the mo. I wouldnt say its 1 per bedroom... to me, I could quite easily get away with 4 in the space I have, considering theyre only ever sat on the bed/sofa/floor where I am.

Vertical space is just as important as floor space

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

I have one and am getting another 2, they will all have a room to go to if they want to avoid each other. We have a big open plan living area, big bedrooms and a big hallway where the litter tray lives so its not cramped. I don't think i'd have four here. there would be enough space for them I just don't want to have loads of litter trays everywhere, but there is space foe 3 decent sized litter trays where they don't stick out so I think 3 will be it for me until we move.

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule. We have a two bed flat and two kittens (mini cats).

For me, even though I keep pining over other cats on the rescue websites, this is all I think would be comfortable in this space. It is also the cost of keeping the cats to consider and how much time you can give each one. My lap is only big enough for two, and where one goes, so the other does, so I couldn't get one more even if I wanted...unless one wanted to sit on my head!

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

I'm also debating this question at the moment with the two lovely boys I have. I'm in a reasonable two bed with a tiny garden, and I think I could have 3 here, but 4 would be pushing it.

Planning to move soon, to either a much larger 2 bed/2 bath or get a normal 2 bed/1bath and very large garden and build a catio. Of course I want 2 little girl kittens so it makes the choice hard.

It's hard to judge, but if your cats prefer to be together and you have lots of vertical space then I'd say you could comfortably have quite a few (like four or so, maybe more) kitties in a 2 bed flat. Also, mine seem to love anything with stairs

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

Also depends on temperament of the cats. We have two MC's and will be adding a ragdoll to our family this autumn and we live in a two-bedroom. Even if they are large cats in general our current two are always in the same room and I'm confident a ragdoll, considering their temperaments, would do fine with Storm and Benji.

Re: how many cats is to many in a 2 bed flat?

Depends how much effort you're prepared to put into making it work, I suppose. Each cat generates another quota of litter to be mucked out and disposed of, and will increase the level of cat aroma in the house even if you sit around all the time with poop scoop in hand. Each cat will consume another quota of cat food, which has to be funded and stored. Each cat needs time allocated to do the integration with the existing pack, and increases the daily quota of time needed for being a cat pillow and toy operator.

Personally I would've thought two cats in a two bedroom flat was plenty, especially if they're house cats. And I reckon our three bedroom house could stretch to accommodating a third cat, in a year or two's time..... but don't anybody let on to my OH! So maybe the 'one cat per bedroom' rule isn't that far off the mark, as a ballpark way of estimating......
