Help wanted but happy ending in sight

sometime ago I adopted what I thought was a stray cat turns out she also had 4 children short version is a neighbour few doors away had been feeding them since kittens but unfortunately she died and then another neighbour continued feeding them but he moved away hence how i came into the picture.

After making numerous calls I was able to identify that the mother cat and her children had been caught by the CPL and neutered, microchipped and had injections.

I am moving house and want to take them all with me but even though i have built up trust with them and can stroke them i suspect if i went to pick them up they would run away, I have officially adopted the mum and also have my own cat tom tom I spoke to my vet and he advised first hurdle is to get them into say a cat carrier or something so i can transport them to my new house but I have no experience of this and would be so greatful for some help on this, my vet also advised they may need sedating to catch them. He also said even if successful they may still run away but i am hopeful that they happy and getting love and food daily and they part of the family so any help would be fabulous or any people I can contact such as charities to assist me as they have more experience than me. My telephone number is 07977463220 it is jane

Re: Help wanted but happy ending in sight

I would talk to your local cat's protection about borrowing a humane trap, first couple just have a cat carrier open and ready, as you're feeding and fussing just scoop em on up and into the carrier quickly but calmly.

you *may* get em all that way but the humane trap bated with a cloth rubbed over any caught cats should also do the trick.

once at your new home keep them in at *least* 6-8 weeks whilst you teach them their names and get them used to you and learn the new place is home.

Personally I would keep them in the new house until the weather is at it's nastiest and let them out hungry on an icky day, they'll soon come home. By time weather is nice they'll be used to coming home.

My CPL would leave one or two wooden traps in a position so a human could hide but still see the kittens enter. The trap door is operated by a length of string that you pull to close the door. They usually have means of transfering the trapped kitten to a carrier via. the wooden slide panel opposite end to the door. They are able to do this without stressing kittens out too much. They might want to leave the traps in position for a few days until the kittens get use to them with the trap door up and asking you to place food inside the trap. This task work when I needed nine ferals to be neutered
and all but one was caught within one and half hours. The other I managed to trap the next day and handed over to CPL.
Good luck and please seek help early so a plan of action can be in place.
