Is your cat a messy eater

Is your cat a messy eater or do they lick their bowl clean? Scamp always leaves bits of food in the bowl and drops it all around the floor next to the bowl. He has always been like this. My previous two cats always licked their bowls clean, so I was wondering who has the messiest eater and just how much mess do they make

Re: Is your cat a messy eater

Yep Molly is a VERY messy eater!! She insist's on taking the food out of the bowl, away from the placemat, which is huge, and promptly eats off the carpet

She never clears her bowl either!

Also if you give her a treat, she cant just eat it straight away, she has to play with it all round the house first!!

Re: Is your cat a messy eater

Depending on the food (Animonda, for example) Ari would lick the bowl so clean, sooooo clean that I have to ask my husband if he remembered to feed her or he just put the clean bowl on the placemat.

But there's always some splashes around... on the mat, wall, water bowl, eyebrows...

Monkey is pretty good, he doesn't make mess round the bowl but he never ever clears every piece of meat, its like a rule he has where he cant eat the whole thing, the gravy however...not a trace!

Perhaps he's just being polite, isn't there some sort of saying or something that says it's actually polite to leave a little bit of food, or perhaps I just made that up

Re: Is your cat a messy eater

Our three are reasonably tidy - there might be the odd bit around the outside of the bowls but only a bit. There is usually 'residue' left in the bowls, they don't lick them all clean & shiny.

However, if we have had chicken or fish for tea, and we leave a bit on the plates for the cats as a treat, when we put the plates down Merson will take his bit OFF the plate and eat it on the floor. I reckon he thinks he'll catch hooman germs if he eats off the same plate as his mommy.....

In some cultures, yes. It's like you're saying "I'm so full that I can't eat even this little bit". In my home, though, I would be lectured ('children are dying of hunger around the world and you're leaving food on the plate') which made me even less hungry ("maybe we could send this food to those children, mom?"). Strangely, do the same to Ari. I saw some street cats in Brazil eating from piles of garbage I took a picture to tell Ari "while you turn your nose to tuna, loads of kitties have only garbage to eat!".

I've just read a blog that says that "The Chinese consider it a compliment to mess up your tablecloth with food spots, meaning you really loved eating it."
