Smile Can't decide...

I can't decide on which breed of cat to get, I've always had moggies but have always wanted a maine coon or norwegian forest cat... however my new place is (although spacious) a one bedroom apartment, so no garden and I'm worried about the size of the breed and whether it would be happy. I can happily give time to grooming/playing etc and my cat can even come into work with me every so often. I would just like to know whether anyone could suggest a smaller (?) breed with similar friendly charateristics? Or if you think either of the above breeds would be ok? I'd love a semi/long haired breed. (I am considering moggies as well, the best cat I ever had was a rescue!)

I'd love to follow my heart but my head is telling me to be sensible so I figured there would be some good opinions on here as there appear to be a few breeders. Would you be happy for your kitten to go to an apartment/indoor home?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

lol take a look at my website under the colours & patterns page for more pics
It depends really, they are quite big boned cats and can weigh a fair bit, mine are med to large, grooming is every week, or in the spring I do a quick daily brush, not much is needed.

Kittens cant be registered anymore unless the parents are HCM tested, so just a note to anyone looking for a ragdoll, if they come without papers it means no health tests have been done!

Maybe what you need are long haired moggies!

Re: Can't decide...

I'm a Birman girl myself

they aren't as big as Ragdolls and are very laid back cats and extremely well suited to indoor living (in fact only suited to indoor living in my opinion) I have a blue point boy and am getting a Seal tortie girl as well.

Here's my little boy at 13 weeks:

They all have the white socks and mittens (paws) and then the pointed colour distribution in various colours

lovely cats, but then I suppose we all have our own favourites

have fun chosing!!

Re: Can't decide...

WOW I've never seen an exotic before, they're such quirky little creatures!

I've already got (at my parents) a semi longhair moggy, he's 18 very proud of the old fella and I'd consider a moggy again. I suppose in my head moggies go hand in hand with gardens and sunbathing and being able to be out and about. Hence all the asking about breeds and what would suit really.

I've never had an indoor cat so not sure what the opinion is either on keeping them indoors, I know people do it but my boys have always had the run of the garden and a cat flap. I feel a bit guilty about keeping a cat indoors because of that. Any opinions on this??

OOh your Birman boy is beautiful!!!! I can't wait to get my own, haven't had a kitten for 15 years (still got 2 boys at my parents), my youngest is 15! So this will no doubt be a learning curve for me :P.
