5 week old kitten HELP

So I'll cut to the chase,

We went to view 2 kittens yesterday and well the conditions where appauling, the house stank there where cats in cages every where and lots of kittens. All looking very thin and not right - so please don't suggest taking her back!

We came home with a little blue girl who was meant to be 9 weeks turns out she's only 4 1/2 - 5 weeks old had fleas and worms so the vet treated her for that. I have some problems, she will only eat dry food and is not drinking anything, my female cat (spayed) is allowing her to nurse ,she cries a lot which of course is to be expected so she has a big fluffy cover inside our cat box which she loves.

What can I do?

The place where we got her from has been reported to the RSPCA via myself and our vet (he was the one who advised us to do it due to the condition she was in).

Re: 5 week old kitten HELP

Poor mite - I'm surprised she's eating much at all at that age she will have only just begun weaning - try getting some cimicat (or other replacement cat milk) and mix it in with soft cat food to make it quite runny and see if she will take that. Really she should still be feeding from mum so you may have to try to get some in her with a syringe (just the replacement milk this is). Thank goodness your neuter is being a star this should help with her socialisation.

I know it's hard to leave kittens in a place like this but the more you buy from them the more they breed as you create a market. Next time, report it to your vet/ RSPCA and they may be able to keep mum and kittens together in rescue.

Piccies please.

Oh gosh, poor little mite. Can you get some kitten milk from the vet and bottle feed? ( not whiskas or other supermarket 'cat milk' )

Re: 5 week old kitten HELP

she may be able to lap the kitten milk too, Spid's advice of making a kitten 'gruel' that she can lap up is a fab idea as it will help her get onto solids quicker.

She needs feeding every 4 hours ish at this age

I will go and get some, I was thinking perhaps getting a bottle to feed her with as well? - do you know if they sell them at pets@home? I know they do the lactol but not sure if they do the feeders.

My cat loves her, washing her allowing her to suckle following the kitten every where she also meows when the kitten does

I know I should have known better but I honestly couldn't leave her!!

How do I upload piccies?

Oh my. Poor little darling....

Great that your other cat is becoming a 'surrogate'... Has she had a litter before perhaps?
