Too grown up to play????

Hi Everyone

As you know I've recently introduced kitten MC Rosso into our home and everything is going well, He and my one year old boy cat Mika are getting on fine It's just that I've noticed that Mika has stopped playing...

He was well past the kitten stage but would always still chase a ball around and was mad for Da Bird but now whenever I try to get him to join in fun n' games he just sits on the sidelines and watches Rosso and I feel a bit sad about that

He does have a race around with Rosso, they wrestle and play tag (usually initiated by Rosso) but I was just wondering if this change in behaviour is just normal growing up? change in circumstances? a bit of jealousy?

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Re: Too grown up to play????

It may just be that mika doesn't have boundless kitten energy? He may just seem less playful but perhaps is getting less long naps so just conserving his energy

Just a thought my 2 are much less playful on hot days or if they were partying late into the night

It's almost like he is sulking with me, like 'Well you've got him to play with now, you don't need me'

Re: Too grown up to play????

We had the same thing with our two, Kiki and Linus, Kiki is about 10 months now for for ages after Linus arrived she just wouldn't play if he was in the room.

She loved Da Bird, jumping around in cubes and generally being naughty before he arrived, so we were really sad when she stopped taking an interest in interactive play with us. However now six weeks or so later she's finally built up the confidence to chase Da Bird (well she prefers the string on its own at the moment ) in front of Linus.

I don't know why it's taken her so long to feel comfortable playing around him, but she's ok with it now, but if he joins in she'll still sit on the sidelines and watch him.

They also quite happily chase one another all over the house but when it comes to interacting with us it's strictly one or the other at the moment. Hoping this will change the more used to each other they get though.

That's really interesting, I wonder why? I do hope Mika comes round and starts to play again, the whole point of getting another kitten was to enrich his life not to take something away from him, I will feel so sad if this happens
