How old is he? Hissing is a sign of fear.

Thats a lovely thing to do. Glad your new arrival has made you smile.

Did you get anymore info from them ?, kittens age, feeding habits a little abit of history for you go about settling little one in to your family.

Buttons sounds a little scared and overwhelmed, hopefully that will pass

Wishing you luck

Kelly xx

Re: been given a kitten :)

Whenever we introduce a new animal into the household, we give them their own little quiet area of the house.

MeMe is our most recent addition and is a 22 month old Maine Coon. When she arrived we settled her in our spare room, we put her litter tray up there, and her food bowls so she wouldn't have to venture too far. We visited her every hour or so mainly just to let her get used to our voices.

She's now been here for a little over two weeks. In this time, and since gaining her trust we've gradually introduced her to the dogs and our other cat (oddly enough she seems most at ease with our big dog!). We have a gate at the bottom of our stairs so that the dogs can't get up to her. The important thing is that everything has been done in her own time. We haven't pushed anything onto her. We let her come and go as she pleases and explore her new surroundings without the fear of dealing with all of us too.

Do you have a quiet area that she can feel secure?

Do you mind me asking what happened to Solo?

Re: been given a kitten :)

So pleased for you

Buttons may just be a bit frightened and in need of a room to settle in to before having free run of the house. This way get used to surroundings.

Re: been given a kitten :)

Oh Solosdad, I'm so sorry. I really don't know what to say. I just don't understand people sometimes, I really don't.

If it was a child that was hurt, the police would do everything they could to find out who it was that owned that airgun and because its an animal that has been murdered its as if its not a big deal.

This makes me so angry People like that have no place in our society.

You will do fine with Buttons. Just keep doing what you are doing
